Obituary

LaVeta Kathryn (Jurgensmeier) Becker-Legg, daughter of Bernard and Matilda (Kempkes) Jurgensmeier was born November 16, 1924 and passed away on October 4, 2015, at The Hilltop Lodge Nursing Home in Beloit Kansas at the age of 90 years.

LaVeta was employed at the Mary Lanning Hospital in Hastings, Ne. before her marriage and for many years at the Phillips County Hospital in Phillipsburg, Ks. and the Logan Manor in Logan, Ks.

She was united in marriage to Charles A. Becker Jr. on July 23, 1946.

To this union was born nine children; Sue Ann, Donna, Dennis, Marcia
Beth, Patricia, Rosemary, Lana, Jayne and Charles Albert (Chuck).

Her first husband, Charles died October 21, 1972 and she was united in marriage to Ned O. Legg on April 23, 1977. Ned preceded her in death October 12, 2006.

She was also preceded in death by infant daughter Marcia Beth, daughter Sue Ann, grandson Jeffry Bowman, her parents, three brothers and five sisters.

LaVeta is survived by seven of her children; Donna Grounds, Dennis Becker, Patricia Bowman, Rosemary Roberts, Lana Balingit, Jayne Sibley and Charles (Chuck) Becker. She is survived by her 17 grandchildren; Lawrence, Jason, Amy, Matthew, Wade, Derek, Jeramey, Joshua, Joe, Stacy, Katie, Sarah, Robert, Mikel, Molly, Ashley and Megan. She is also survived by her 29 great grandchildren Grace, Lucas, Lucibelle, Abby, Aidan, Ryleigh, Madalynn, Bailey, Hailey, McKenzie, Eva, Isaac, Blaine, Knox, Tegan, Damon, Haven, Jay, Jennifer, Jacob, Jolene, Jeffery, Jessie, Josie, Reid, Deon, Cade, Cyrus & Lillie. She is survived by her step children Debra Kline, Neddie Legg and Kent Legg. Three sisters and one sister-in-law also survive.

LaVeta enjoyed playing cards, crocheting, working crossword puzzles and visiting with family and friends. She was an amazing cook and her family especially enjoyed her fried chicken. LaVeta was a loving mother and a devoted grandmother. She worked tirelessly raising her large family when the work was so much harder than with the conveniences of today.

Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Monday, October 12, 2015 in the St. John's Catholic Church in Logan, with Father George Chalbhagam officiating. Burial will follow in the Pleasant View Cemetery, Logan.

Mrs. Legg will lie in state from Noon until 9 p.m. Saturday & Sunday at the Logan Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Sunday evening at the funeral home, with a Rosary recited at 7:00 p.m.
