Obituary

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Lucas resident, Lee Ann Herold, on Sunday, December 29 at Hays Medical Center, Hays, KS at the age of 72.
Lee Ann was born September 24, 1947 in Okemah, Oklahoma to Fred and Imo Ryan. She lived most of her school days in Casper, Wyoming until moving to Great Bend her Senior year, graduating in 1966.
On June 16, 1973 she married Raymond Herold and was the beloved mother of Kelly Horn of Hays and Bill Herold of Lucas.
Lee Ann loved her family above all else and always thought of everyone ahead of herself. She was the heart and soul of her family. She treasured her children and embraced every moment with them. She especially loved her role as Nanny and G-ma.
She had a vivacious personality and always made the people around her laugh. She never met a stranger as she became friends with whomever she met from cashiers at Walmart to someone next to her playing Bingo.
She loved collecting cookie jars and has close to 70 displayed in her home. She loved to put them out with cookies for when her family and friends would visit. She was always playing the hostess. She would never let you leave her house hungry.
Lee Ann had many activities that she loved to do. She loved playing all types of games but loved Mexican Train most of all. She told everyone that this past Christmas was her best one as the kids, grandkids, nieces and nephews all played Mexican Train with her. She even belonged to a group that played once a week. She also loved to play Bingo in Russell where she enjoyed many laughs with her family and friends.
Quilting became another one of her favorite activities in the year 2000. Over the years she enjoyed making over 200 quilts with only two that she kept. All the rest have gone to family members and friends. She has donated quilts to churches, area hospitals and the Lucas movie theater for fundraisers. Her latest project was 27 quilts she had started that she wanted to finish and donate to the Via Christi Nursing Home in Hays. That was who she was, always wanting to give of herself.
She loved life and wanted to live it to it's fullest. She was a member of the Red Hat Ladies, Half Square Quilters and other quilting guilds. She loved going on shop hops and attending the International Quilt show in Houston, TX with her quilting group, husband and daughter.
Lee Ann is survived by her husband, Raymond Herold, Lucas; daughter Kelly Horn, Hays; son Bill Herold and wife Sheree, Lucas; Grandchildren: Brody Horn and Martin Valdivia, Lawrence, Dylan Herold and his wife Vee, Osborne, Kaylee Horn, Lawrence, Collin Herold, Lucas, Delaney Herold, Concordia and Bailey Evans, Lawrence; Great Grandchildren: James and Demi Herold, Osborne; brother Phil Ryan and wife Kay, Emmitt, Idaho; nieces: Janette Mitchell, San Antonio, TX and Joan Pool and husband Frank, Lucas; Great Nieces and Nephews: Lacey Soukup, husband David and son Carter, Wilson, Wendi Pool, Elisa, San Antonio, TX and Brandon Pool, Lucas.
