Obituary

Leland L. Ewing was born on October 29, 1938 in Phillips County, Kansas to Forrest C. Ewing and Opal Fern Thompson. He passed away on March 22, 2015 at his home in rural Phillips County, Kansas at the age of 76.
Leland grew to adulthood in rural Phillips County. He attended elementary school at the country school house in Gretna, Kansas and high school in Phillipsburg. Leland worked at 2 different service stations in Phillipsburg while farming with his Dad before joining the National Guard and enlisting in the Air Force where he advanced to corporal as a sheet metal specialist before being honorably discharged on April 8, 1961 from McGuire Air Force Base in New Jersey. After his discharge he returned to the family farm where he worked with his father and helped many neighbors when needed.
After his return to Phillips County he met and married Charlene Jean Hines. They were married September 8th, 1962 in the United Methodist Church, Phillipsburg. To this union 2 children were born: Melany Sue and Randy Lee. Leland and Charlene celebrated 51 years of marriage before Charlene's passing on March 27th, 2014.
Leland was an avid farmer who had a deep love of the land and was still actively engaged in farming up until his death. He was known for being very particular and had a keen eye for detail and perfection, especially when it came to cleaning windows. Nobody could clean a window up to his standards. During his farming years he raised hogs, cattle, horses, and grain. Even after getting out of his own cattle business he still enjoyed looking after and helping others with their cattle.
Leland had a big love for homemade ice cream with his family. He could always find a reason or occasion to have it, no matter the time of year. Leland and Charlene enjoyed many Saturday nights traveling the area with their special group of friends & family to dances. Countless memories were made at the dances and the early morning breakfast parties following their evenings of dancing. Leland loved to visit, no matter where they went, whether it be family gatherings, out to eat, or just a trip to town. In the past several years, Leland & Charlene enjoyed dining & conversation with their "Sunday Supper Club" friends.
Leland is preceded in death by his parents, Forrest & Opal Ewing, his stepmother, Ramah Ewing, one step-brother, Carlisle Thompson and his wife, Charlene.
He is survived by his daughter, Melany Sue and husband Rodney Jackson; his son, Randy and wife Deanna; three grandsons: Shawn Cotten, Steven Cotten and fiancee', Alex Wichers, and Adam Ewing; one granddaughter, Savannah Ewing; and one half-brother, Gale Ewing & wife, Melanie, all of Phillipsburg; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of friends.

Funeral services will be held Friday, March 27, at 10:30 a.m. in the Olliff-Boeve Memorial Chapel, Phillipsburg, with Pastor Joel Hiesterman officiating. Burial will follow in the Hillsdale Cemetery, Phillips County, with military honors by the U.S. Air Force.
Visitation will be Wed. & Thurs. from 9 a.m. – 9 p.m. at the funeral home, with the family receiving friends from 7 – 8 p.m. Thursday evening.
Memorial contributions may be given to the Agra Fire Department or Phillips County E.M.S
