Obituary

Leland Frederick Miller, son of William and Ella (Dettmer) Miller, was born on the farm at Agra, Kansas on March 11, 1924, and passed away March 7, 2014 at the Phillips County Retirement Center in Phillipsburg, Kansas.

He was baptized and confirmed at St. Peters Lutheran Church, rural Agra. He and his family later became members of St. John's Lutheran Church of Kensington. In addition to being a church member, he was a member of Luther League, the mixed choir, and men's choir, and served as a Sunday School teacher, church council member and also as cemetery sexton.

Leland started school at the age of five with his brother, Leroy, in the West Cedar District No. 14 country school and later graduated from Agra High School with the Class of 1941.

Leland and Audrey Johanns were united in marriage on April 21, 1946, at St. John's. This union was blessed with four children: Cherie, Steven, Roger and Mark.

They raised their family on a farm northeast of Agra where Leland farmed until his retirement in 1992.   Leland was also a charter member of the Kensington Lions Club until he & Audrey moved to Phillipsburg in 1992. In 2013, due to health reasons, Leland moved to the Phillips County Retirement Center where he resided until his death.

He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather who loved spending time with his family - especially his grandsons, who were his pride and joy.

Preceding him in death were his father, Bill, in 1988; his mother, Ella, in 1996; his son, Roger, in 1998; his grandson, Josh, in 1980; and his brothers, Leroy, in 1974, and Dean, in 2014.

He leaves to mourn his wife, Audrey; daughter, Cherie Crain, of Derby, KS; son, Steven & wife, Linda, of Agra, KS; son, Mark, of Dodge City, KS; his grandsons: Mitch of Agra; Kyle & wife, Brittany, of Overland Park, KS; Jared & wife, Christen, of Manhattan, KS; Neal of Merriam, KS; Wynn and Tate, of Dodge City; his great-grandson, Parker, of Overland Park; his sister, Charlotte & husband, Doyle Rahjes, of Agra; his brother, David Miller & wife Jolinda, of Lakewood; his sisters-in-law, Darlene Miller of Kensington, KS and Wanda Stange of Arizona; as well as several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 15, at 1:30 p.m. in the St. John Lutheran Church, Kensington, with Pastor Lorna Paulus officiating. Burial will follow in the St. John Lutheran Cemetery, Kensington.

Visitation will be Thursday from 5-9 p.m. and Friday from 9 a.m. – 9 p.m. at the Olliff-Boeve Memorial Chapel, Phillipsburg.
