Leland Wayne McGuire, son of John Lloyd and Mabel Ruby (Trowbridge) McGuire was born July 16, 1919 south of Mingo, Kansas. He passed away Wednesday, December 30, 2015 at his home in Hays.

He was united in marriage to Ruby L. Smith on May 4, 1940 in Colby, Kansas. She preceded him in death on February 20, 2001. He then married Faye A. (Breese) Hunziker on March 8, 2004 in Alma, Nebraska.

Leland loved music and played the accordion. He played with various groups including his brother Mel's band, Mel's Melody Men and The Strings and Ivory Band, which performed at nursing homes.

He was a member of the Nazarene Church, the American Legion Post 173, Hays, KS and a life member of the Oakley VFW.

He was preceded in death by his parents, 3 brothers – Mel, Cecil and Bill, 1 sister – Patricia Rose and 4 half brothers, Tom, Earl, Cliff and Glenn.

He is survived by his wife, Faye, of Hays, KS; 4 sons Larry and wife Linda McGuire of Branson, MO; James and wife Carol McGuire of Chapman, KS; Eddy and wife Gen McGuire of Phillipsburg, KS and Kurtis and wife Christine Hunziker of Hays, KS; 3 daughters, Judy Hopson of Holcomb, KS; JoLene and husband Jack Bay of Kansas City, MO and Jacqueline and husband John Ausmus of McKinney, TX; twp brothers, Don and wife Joy McGuire of Bartlesville, OK and Harvey McGuire of Oakley, KS; 5 sisters Marthanell Turley of Scott City, KS; Retha Lemmons of Oakley, KS, Lue and husband Keith Ellegood of Oakley, KS, Elizabeth Salters of Stockton, MO and Velda Cox of Wichita, KS.

Grandchildren – Gary and wife Rebecca McGuire, Sherry and husband Jason Barnes, Chad and wife Kim Shearmire, Heidi and husband Kevin Diercks, Holly and husband Marlon Carias, Althea, Leland, Zeke and EdiLyn McGuire, Flora and husband Kelly Rummel, Katy and husband Logan Guthrie, Logan Bay, Dewey and wife Cindy O'Neill , Patrick and wife Stacey O'Neill, Jeremy and wife Carly Thomas, Korey Hunziker, Kara Hunziker and fiancé Bret VanderGiesen, and Cami Hunziker.

Great-grandchildren – Tatum, Jacob, and Ryan McGuire, Morgan McGuire and fiancé James Wilson, Matthew and Nathan Whitsitt, Brandon Gonzalez, Brantlee and wife Devon Shearmire, Amanda and husband Jordan Unruh, Brandi Shearmire, Justin and wife Megan Crane, Krystin Crane and fiancé Mitch Horner, Dylan Crane, Hayden Barnes, Alex, Hannah, Ethan and Gabbie Diercks, Gillian Carias, Julie and Pierce Rummel, Rachelle, Donovan, Sarah and Carson O'Neill, Shirey and Chazley Thomas and Addelyn VanderGiesen.

Funeral services will be held as 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, January 5, 2016 at the Wesleyan Church in Oakley, KS with Pastor Clyde Graham officiating. Burial will follow in the Pyramid View Cemetery, Gove County, KS, with Military Honors conducted by the Fort Riley Honor Guard.

Mr. McGuire will lie in state on Monday, January 4, 2016 in the Olliff-Boeve Memorial Chapel, 1115 2nd Street, Phillipsburg, KS 67661 from Noon until 9:00 p.m.
