Loren Henry Paul Grau, son of Theodore & Ida (Beyerlein) Grau, was born November 27, 1928 on a farm west of Phillipsburg, KS, and passed away Sunday evening January 21, 2018 at the Phillips County Hospital at the age of 89 surrounded by family.
He was baptized December 23, 1928, and confirmed June 28, 1942, and was an active lifelong member of Emmanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church in Stuttgart, KS. He enjoyed teaching Sunday School and serving on the church council.
Loren graduated from Phillipsburg High School with the class of 1946. In November 1952, he was drafted into service for our country in the U.S. Army, spending the majority of his time in Germany & France, and was honorably discharged in October 1954. He then returned home to farming.
On April 26, 1964, Loren was united in marriage to Frances I. Keeten of Glade, KS, and was blessed with two daughters, Linda Jean and Sonja Kaye.
Farming was Loren's chosen life work. He loved the outdoors. Loren was a hardworking man who took great pride in being able to provide for his family. He enjoyed bowling with friends on the local bowling league. He had an interest in antique tractors along with his hobbies which included collecting unique barbed wire and lead pencils.
Loren's children and grandchildren were a great source of satisfaction. He was very proud of their accomplishments and attended their activities whenever he could. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather.
He was preceded in death by his parents Theodore & Ida Grau; his infant brother; and his two sisters-in-law: Shirley Isernhagen and Joyce Keeten; and infant niece. He is survived by his wife, Frances of the home; his two daughters: Linda and husband, Dave Heersink, Stuttgart, KS; Sonja and husband, Chad Jackson, Olathe, KS; two grandchildren: Trent and Lauren Heersink; two brothers-in-law: Donald D. Keeten and Don Isernhagen, as well as nieces, nephews, cousins, and good friends, all of whom will miss him deeply.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, Jan. 27, at 10:30 a.m. in the Emmanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church, Stuttgart, with Pastors Lee Bennight and Lorna Paulus officiating. Burial will follow in the Emmanuel Evangelical Lutheran Cemetery with military honors by Fort Riley.
Mr. Grau will lie in-state on Thurs. & Fri., Jan. 25 & 26, from 9 a.m. – 9 p.m. at the Olliff-Boeve Memorial Chapel, Phillipsburg.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial gifts be given to the Emmanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church or the Phillips County Retirement Center.
