Loretta Katherine Ulrey, of Logan, Kansas, passed away peacefully at the age of 77 on May 15, 2026.

Loretta was born on September 18, 1948, at St. Rose Hospital in Great Bend, Kansas, to Robert and Aurelia (Schugart) Connor. She was raised in central Kansas and carried throughout her life the values of faith, family, hard work, and compassion that defined her character.

On July 8, 1968, Loretta married the love of her life, Charles F. Ulrey, at St. Ann's Catholic Church in Olmitz, Kansas. Together they built a life centered on family and welcomed their son, Charles Michael Ulrey.

Throughout her life, Loretta called several Kansas communities’ home. She lived in Hoisington for 19 years, Rozel for 2 years, and Larned for 23 years. During those years, she dedicated herself to serving others through both her work and her community. She worked for Erway Lumber for 10 years and later for the City of Larned for 11 years. Never one to shy away from a challenge, Loretta returned to school as an adult and earned her Registered Nursing degree from Barton County Community College in 1994. She then worked as a Registered Nurse at Larned State Hospital for approximately one and a half years, fulfilling her lifelong desire to care for others.

In 2020, Loretta moved to Logan, Kansas, to be closer to her sister, Barbara. Family was always at the center of Loretta's life, and she treasured every opportunity to spend time with those she loved.

Loretta will be remembered by all who knew her as kind, compassionate, hardworking, and always willing to help others. She had a gentle spirit, a generous heart, and a remarkable ability to make people feel cared for and valued. Anyone who had the privilege of knowing Loretta would tell you that their life was richer because she was a part of it.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles F. Ulrey; her son, Charles Michael Ulrey; her parents, Robert and Aurelia Connor; her brothers, Robert C. Connor, John E. Connor, and James L. Connor; her sisters, Francis J. Flagor, Margaret A. Ehrlich, and MaryLou Komarek; and her nieces, Janet Palmer, Renae Rowley and Karen (Connor) Crain.

Loretta is survived by her sister, Barbara (Connor) Lehning and husband Michael Lehning of Logan, Kansas; Nieces: Lorri Connor, Laurie Moore, Tina Connor Petty, Debra Adams, Sue Morris, Linda Komarek and Nicole Lindemann. She is also survived by her nephews Robert Connor, Richard Connor, Ronald Flagor, Jack Flagor, David Flagor, Earl Flagor, Robert Flagor, Shane Komarek, Jeremy Lehning and Blake Lehning.

Loretta is also survived by her grandchildren, Amanda Rupp and husband David, Jennifer Jackson and husband Cameron and Jonathan Ulrey and wife Kristen and Hannah Welsh; as well as eleven cherished great-grandchildren (Susana, Gracie, Alyssa, Reid, Jayden, Bella, Hunter, Braxton, Faye, Kori, Evan, Gena, and Daisy) whose lives were blessed by her love and presence.

Loretta's legacy of kindness, perseverance, compassion, and devotion to family will continue to live on through all who knew and loved her. She leaves behind a family who will miss her deeply and remember with gratitude the countless ways she touched their lives.

A funeral mass will be held on Saturday, June 20th, at 10:00 a.m., at St. John's Catholic Church, 203 Main St., Logan, Kansas 67646.
