Agra Resident, Lorraine Atchison, born Lorraine Hough on November 3, 1930, in Phillips County, KS, near Gretna, KS, passed away peacefully on April 26, 2026, at Smith County Memorial Hospital in Smith Center, KS, at the age of 95.
Lorraine was united in marriage to her sweetheart, Thornton Atchison, on November 1, 1950, at Kensington, KS. They made their home in Agra, and to this union, 2 sons were born, Jay and Curtis.
Lorraine was a person known for her honesty, hard work, loyalty, and caring nature. She graduated from Agra High School in 1948 and dedicated much of her life to helping her family, including being a devoted caretaker for her mother and her aunts and uncles. Over the years, Lorraine worked at various businesses in Agra and was always ready to lend a hand to anyone who needed help. For many years, she served as the assistant postmaster at the Agra Post Office, where she was a familiar and trusted presence.
Her kindness extended beyond her work and family. Lorraine volunteered with the Agra American Legion, generously providing pies and cakes for their events. She was also known to take her friends to medical appointments and other places whenever they needed assistance. Helping others was something she truly enjoyed and embraced throughout her life.
Lorraine is survived by her sons, Jay Atchison of Agra, KS, and Curtis Atchison of Kensington, KS, who carried forward her spirit and memory. She was preceded in death by her parents, Samuel Lee Hough and Margaret Ann (Nielsen) Hough, and on July 3, 1973, at the age of 53, her husband Thornton Otto Atchison.
Lorraine Atchison will be remembered for her gentle heart, her dedication to those around her, and her unwavering willingness to support her community. She lived a life of service and care, leaving a lasting impression on all who knew her.
Following Lorraine's wishes, cremation is planned with no services scheduled at this time.
Hugunin Family Funeral Homes, Olliff-Boeve Memorial Chapel, Phillipsburg, is in charge of arrangements.
