Lorraine Ruth Bartley, one of seven children born to Earl & Pearl (Ritter) Stevens, came into this world on August 6, 1938 in Phillips County, Kansas and passed away on August 19, 2019 at the Smith County Hospital in Smith Center, Kansas at the age of 81.
As a young girl she attended the Greenwood country school and later graduated from Agra High School. After graduation and prior to her marriage she worked at the Duckwall's store in Phillipsburg.
On November 27, 1957, Lorraine married Billie Bartley at the Englewood Church in Phillips County, Kansas. The couple was blessed with four children – sons, Terry and Tim, and daughters, Arlene and Marlyce.
In addition to being a homemaker and mother, Lorraine helped Billie maintain their dairy farm. She also worked as a babysitter for as many as nine children at a time, plus her own! Later she cleaned business offices and residential homes and then worked at the SRS office in Smith Center for many years. Lorraine also enjoyed taking care of their favorite little dog Rascal.
Lorraine attended the Central Community Church where she was also baptized. In her spare time she enjoyed many hobbies: crocheting, gardening and canning, cooking, baking, trading recipes, plants and flowers and visiting with friends. She especially loved spending time with her family and adored her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, each one holding a special place in her heart. Lorraine also was a member of local quilting club and gardening club.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Earl & Pearl Stevens; son, Terry; husband, Billie; brother, Kenneth Stevens; sisters, Valeta Seyler, Norma Gitchel, and infant sister, Juanita Stevens.
Survivors include her son, Tim & wife, Melanie of Smith Center, KS; daughters, Arlene Stone of Hastings, NE and Marlyce Gordier & husband, Paul, of Elm Creek, NE; daughter-in-law, Chong Bartley of Florida; sister, LaDonna Wilcox of Partridge, KS; 10 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.
A private family graveside will be conducted in the Agra Cemetery, Agra, KS with Pastor Casey Borger officiating.
Friends may sign the book from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday, August 22, 2019 at the Olliff-Boeve Memorial Chapel, 1115 2 nd Street, Phillipsburg, KS 67661. The casket will remain closed.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Central Community Church or the Johnson Cancer Research Center.
