Obituary

Phillipsburg resident, Louie W. Congdon, age 77, died Sunday, July 9, 2017 at the Phillips County Hospital, Phillipsburg, KS.

He was born April 21, 1940 in New London, Connecticut, the son of Eddie & Elizabeth Congdon. He graduated from the New London, CT High School. He then joined the United State Air Force on December 2, 1957 and was honorably discharged on November 30, 1960 as an Airman 3rd Class.

After his military service, Louie worked in New London for a while as a pipe fitter in the oil fields. He married Shirley M. Little on August 25, 1974 in New London.

They moved to Clay Center, Kansas where Louie went to work constructing and painting modular homes. Later the family headed west to Long Beach, CA where Louie spent time working for Culligan, then for a natural gas company, and finally at Long Beach Marina where he worked as a painter. They moved back to Kansas where Louie started his own general contracting & painting business in Belleville called the House Doctor.

Following his retirement, Louie & Shirley moved to Blue Hill, Nebraska for a time and then to Phillipsburg to be near their daughter, Ranee.

In his younger years Louie enjoyed high board diving, deep sea fishing, scuba diving and shooting pool. Later on, he & Shirley enjoyed going to auctions and flea markets and traveling with their family. He loved watching sports and was an avid fan of the Boston Red Sox and New England Patriots.

Louis was preceded in death by his parents; 2 brothers, Walter & Bobby; and a granddaughter, Kelsey Congdon-Vacha.

He is survived by his wife, Shirley, of their home in Phillipsburg; his 4 daughters: Ranee Kester & husband, Nathan, of Phillipsburg; Erica Congdon & friend, David Meyer, of Chester, NE; Desiree Congdon of Salina, KS; and Jessica Congdon of Hill City, KS; as well as 16 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.

Cremation is planned. Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, July 13, 2017 at the Olliff-Boeve Memorial Chapel, Phillipsburg, with Randy Elder officiating.

Friends may sign the book from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the Olliff-Boeve Memorial Chapel, 1115 2nd Street, Phillipsburg, KS 67661 where the family will receive friends for visitation from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the Louie W. Congdon Memorial Fund.
