IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Lovetta
Wood
December 16, 1933 – May 26, 2019
On May 26, 2019 our Lord called home His servant Gracie Lovetta Wood. Lovetta was 85 years old. She was born on December 16, 1933 in Chattanooga, Oklahoma to F.B. and Cle Ora Vice. As a child Lovetta's father was a government employee and she lived in several locations, going to twelve different schools during her elementary to high school years. During WW II her father served at German POW camps in Shamrock, Texas, Pryor, Oklahoma and Neosho, Missouri where she graduated from High School.
It was in her senior year of high school when she met Sargent Denzil Wood. They were married on June 8, 1952 in Neosho. Their union was blessed with four children; Bob, Sharlene, Brenda and Kimberly. In July 1957 Lovetta and Denzil were baptized into the family of Our God in Maljamar, New Mexico. They lived in Texas, New Mexico and Arizona where Lovetta worked at various jobs before opening a daycare in her home. Through this effort she was able to influence children and their families which became a hallmark of her life, helping others build strong families.
In 1971 Lovetta and Denzil moved to Lubbock, Texas where Denzil attended the Sunset School of Preaching and thus started a forty plus years of service to the people in Indiana, Arizona and Kansas.
During this time their children married their spouses in locations where Lovetta and Denzil had lived. Bob met and married his bride Sharon King in Lubbock, Texas where they currently live. Sharlene married her husband, Bob Keesee in Phillipsburg, Kansas where they currently live. Brenda met her husband, Norman Chanley Jr. in Salem, Indiana and they currently live in Phillipsburg, Kansas. Kimberly met and married her husband Brian McCormack in Miami, Arizona and they currently live in Edmond, Oklahoma.
Spending time with her eleven grandchildren and spouses and twenty five great grandchildren occupied much of her time in her later years. This time involved baking cookies, hosting tea parties, attendance at school events, teaching them about Jesus and traveling all over the Northern and Southern Plains of the United States!
Preceding Lovetta in her journey to heaven includes her husband Denzil Wood and her mother Cle Ora Vice and her father F.B. Vice.
Survivors include her four children and their four spouses, eleven grandchildren, twenty-five great grandchildren, one brother, Bob Vice, two sisters Kay Seaman and Lynn Vice, and sister-in-law Linda McIntosh.
Those who knew Lovetta will remember her for her dedication to family and to God. She will be deeply missed by family and friends who know she is living in her eternal heavenly realm.
