Obituary

Lyndall Lorrayne Hayes, daughter of Lewis & Kathryn (Bretton) Billings, was born March 31, 1919 south of Speed, Kansas in Phillips County, and passed away November 20, 2010 at the Phillips County Retirement Center in Phillipsburg, Kansas at the age of 91 years, 7 months and 20 days.

She attended elementary school and high school in Speed, Kansas, graduating with the class of 1937. She married Addison Hayes on June 9, 1937 and this union was blessed with a son, Lewis, and a daughter, Lorene. The family had residences in Ashland, Oregon, Phillipsburg and Norton, Kansas and Greeley, Colorado.

Addison and Lyndall divorced after 25 years of marriage. This new chapter in Lyndall's life brought the challenges of obtaining her first driver's license and going back to school. She graduated from Cosmetology school in Greeley, Colorado in 1962 and opened a beauty shop in her home. She retired in 1992 after serving her customers and friends for 30 years.

Lyndall moved back to Phillipsburg in 2000 to be closer to her daughter and family. In her spare time she enjoyed crocheting, embroidering and dancing, and she also had a fondness for horses. Lyndall loved to cook and bake for her kids and grandkids whenever they came to visit. In later years she found great joy in seeing her great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

Her husband, Addison; parents, Lew & Kathryn; son, Lewis "Ted" Hayes; brothers Leland, Bruce and Eldon; and a sister, Lila, preceded her in death.

Survivors include her daughter, Lorene Brunow & husband, Richard, of Phillipsburg, KS; daughter-in-law, Rita Hayes of Seattle, WA; sisters-in-law, LaVonna Billings of Greeley, CO and Neva Stephenson of Phillipsburg, KS; eight grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great-grandchildren.

Cremation is planned. A memorial service was held Wednesday, November 24 at 10:00 a.m. in the Olliff-Boeve Memorial Chapel with Pastor Todd Toomer officiating.

Memorial contributions have been established to the Assembly Of God Church or Hospice Services.
