IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Lynn
Craig
May 30, 1950 – August 17, 2019
Darwin "Lynn" Craig was born May 30, 1950 in Stockton, Kansas, the son of Olen & Jessie (Anglin) Craig. He passed away at his home in Phillipsburg, Kansas on August 17, 2019 at the age of 69.
While growing up, Lynn and his family moved and lived along the Missouri-Pacific railroad line from Lenora, Kansas to Speed, Kansas. He talked about living in the country and being snowed in for weeks during the blizzards of 1958. Their family then moved to Kirwin, Kansas and Lynn attended school in Agra, Kansas.
He joined the Marine Corps and was given an Honorable Discharge for medical reasons. Lynn went to work in the oil fields with his older brother, Bill, and later worked as a carpenter with J.R. Cunningham of Stockton.
He then started driving a truck for James, Inc. of Phillipsburg, which led to his lifetime career driving for Long Island Grain Co. He started as a cross-country driver with his friend, Craig Hammond, and then began locally hauling grain, hogs and rock for the company. The last few years, Lynn was their faithful coffee maker and full-time storyteller. His greatest joy was joking around with the guys. He made many friends with his stories, teasing everyone he met, and he had the ability to make anyone laugh and lighten their day.
In his spare time Lynn enjoyed hunting and fishing. Sundays were spent watching Nascar racing (his buddy, #18), which he knew would cause much complaining! He also enjoyed watching his favorite NFL team, the Raiders.
He looked forward to, but impatiently waited for, the weekly suppers with his daughter and grandkids. He dearly loved all his grandchildren – they were his greatest blessings. He will be deeply missed by his family and all those who knew and shared his love and laughter.
Lynn was preceded in death by his parents, Olen & Jessie Craig, and his sisters & brothers: Oneta Maley, Bill Craig, Roberta Craig, Calvin Craig, Danita Kay Wendell, Connie Craig, and Galen LaDean.
Survivors include his children: Shawn & wife, Kim, of Smith Center, KS; Chad of Cedar Rapids, IA; Justin of Hays, KS; Stacy Hines & husband, Jeremy, of Carl Junction, MO; and Chelsea of Phillipsburg, KS; his grandchildren: Cheyenne Craig, Brayden Hale, Jeran Hale, Treaven Hale, Gracyn Hale, Daegan Craig, Alayna Craig, Amaya and Isaiah Michael, and Shawnalyn Craig; and brothers & sisters: Tamara Craig and Richie Craig, both of Wichita, KS, Marlene Holloway of Twin Falls, ID, and Dannie Craig of Phillipsburg.
The family will receive friends Wednesday, August 21, 2019 at the Olliff-Boeve Memorial Chapel, Phillipsburg, from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Lynn will lie in state Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. at the funeral chapel, with cremation to follow.
