Obituary

Margaret Becker Lappin was born February 16, 1917 on a farm 4 miles southeast of Logan to Gotfried Paul Becker and Emma D States Becker. She attended elementary school at Stone School. Margaret graduated from Logan High School in 1934 and continued her education at St. Joseph Hospital School of Nursing in Concordia Kansas graduating in 1939.

On December 31st 1940 she was united in marriage at St. John's Catholic Church to Douglas Earl Lappin, son of Walter and Nelle Scott Lappin. They made their home for the first 9 years on the home place where Margaret was born. She and Douglas were partners in farming and raising turkeys while living in the country. In December of 1949 they and their two children moved into their new home in Logan where she continued to reside until her death on October 20, 2012 at the age of 95. She and Douglas raised their family consisting of Jerilyn Kaye, Lowell Douglas and Janell Denise, while farming and running an implement business

Margaret was a true homemaker. She provided for her family by gardening and preserving her produce. She was an excellent cook and seamstress, making most of her own and her daughters clothing. In her spare time she crocheted many doilies and Christmas snowflakes and other decorations for her family's Christmas trees. She also made hundreds of Barbie doll outfits making sure everyone had a copy of each outfit, including one for her.

Margaret served as an officer for both the St. John's Ladies Guild and the Logan Alumni Board. For over 50 years if you came to a fall dinner at the church you experienced her homemade turkey and roast beef gravy.

Margaret was known for her beautiful flower gardens and many people made a habit of driving by in the summer to see her garden in bloom. Everyone knew where to find Margaret from dawn to dusk. She was also an avid historian spending hours reading old Logan newspapers. This was done to reconstruct the old Logan cemetery and then again to research vital records of the community for the Logan Library. Her daughter Jerilyn enlisted Margaret's help in researching their ancestor's family history. They spent many hours reading and typing family dates and stories.

Margaret is survived by her daughter Jerilyn and husband Larry Koskan, of Orland Park, IL; son Lowell Lappin and wife Janet of Hays KS; and daughter Janell and husband Robert Noone of Logan KS.
