Alton resident, Margaret L. VanScyoc, passed away Wednesday, May 10, 2017 at her residence at the age of 76.
She was born February 25, 1941 in Fort Collins, Colorado the daughter of Wesley & Mildred (Michael) Kitchen.
Margaret met and began dating Mark VanScyoc in 1977, and the couple married on August 12, 1988 in Masonville, CO. Together, they returned to Osborne County, where she & Mark built their dream home in the country. Mark preceded her in death on December 2, 2011. She continued living in that home until the day she passed.
She was also preceded in death by her parents & son, Scott Randolph.
Margaret purchased the Osborne County Farmer in 1973. She operated it until 1987 when she retired. Retirement didn't work so well for her, she wanted to stay active. With her love for the Osborne Community, in 1989 she became the Chamber Director, then in 1995 she took on the role as Economic Director for the area. She ran these offices will all her heart until 2005, when she thought retirement was ready for her.
Survivors include 3 daughters, Renee Gordon of Luray, Shelly Pfeifer of Salina & Toni Standley & husband, Kevin of Osborne; 2 sisters, Bonnie Eller & husband, Jerry of Payson, Arizona & Peggy Ellenberger of Wickenburg, Arizona; 7 grandchildren, Tonya, Jessica, Darin, Chris, Jamie, Travis, Eric & Chandler; & 4 great grandchildren, Alayna, Paige, Peyton & Liam.
Cremation was planned. Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, May 16, 2017 at the United Christian Church, Osborne, with Pastor Dennis Davenport officiating. Inurnment will follow in the Kirwin Cemetery, Kirwin, KS.
The family will receive friends for visitation on Monday evening at the United Christian Church, Osborne, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.
