Rubie Marguerite Curry, daughter of Clarence A. and Emma (Weissert) Peterson, was born February 5, 1920 in Funk, Nebraska and passed away October 27, 2011 at the Phillips County Retirement Center in Phillipsburg, Kansas at the age of 91.

She graduated from high school in Holdrege, Nebraska with the Class of 1937 and then from Nebraska Wesleyan College in 1941. She later earned her Masters Degree from the University of Northern Colorado in 1962.

On May 19, 1946, Marguerite was united in marriage to Harold A. Curry in Holdrege, Nebraska. For several years she taught school in Holdrege and also Cambridge, Nebraska. The couple then moved to Phillipsburg, Kansas where Marguerite taught 2nd Grade along with High School Physical Education. Harold & Marguerite also became foster parents to her 9 year-old nephew, Roger Moore, while living in Phillipsburg. Roger became like a son to them, staying in their home until his graduation from Phillipsburg High School.

During her teaching career at USD #325, Marguerite received the Master Teacher Award in 1972 and then the Valley Forge Freedom Award Teacher's Medal in 1974. She was a lifetime member of the National Education Association, serving on the Board of Directors from 1971 - 1975. Her community involvement included memberships in the General Federation of Women's Clubs, Business & Professional Women and Delta Kappa Gamma sorority. She was an active member of the United Methodist Church and U.M.W., along with singing in the choir and playing in the bell choir.

Harold & Marguerite later moved to Omaha, Nebraska, where they owned an auto auction business selling vehicles in Omaha and Hastings, Nebraska. In 1986, the couple made their final move back to Phillipsburg. Harold passed away on December 11, 2001.

In her spare time, Marguerite loved to sew. She was an excellent seamstress and made many of her own clothes. She also enjoyed gardening and making her own jelly and jams. She had a passion for traveling, taking trips overseas to England and Sweden, as well as seeing most of the United States, including Hawaii. She loved to entertain in her home and have friends and family come to visit. She cherished the time she was able to spend with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, Harold, she was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Harold Peterson; and a sister, Elaine Hunt.

Survivors include her foster son, Roger D. Moore & wife, Lou, of Vidalia, LA; two grandchildren: Bradley Moore & wife, Sondra and Misty Henson & husband, Stacy; six great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
