Obituary

Marguerite Jane Wallace, daughter of James Roy & Hazel Mildred (Rumbaugh) Rowland, was born in rural Phillips County, Kansas on October 16, 1930, and left this earthly life to join her husband, Bud, on October 19, 2015.

She attended country school in Gretna, Kansas and graduated from Phillipsburg High School with the class of 1948. After graduating, she was employed by Bell Telephone Service as a telephone operator. She operated a switchboard in Phillipsburg and Toledo, Ohio.

Marguerite met the love of her life, Alfred Dean "Bud" Wallace, while roller skating at the Phillipsburg Community Building. Marguerite and Bud were married on April 21, 1957 in Phillipsburg, Kansas. The couple raised two daughters together, Connie and Peggy.

Bud & Marguerite purchased the filling station on Highway 36 in Agra, and for the next 30 years, owned and operated the station and sometimes the café, as well. Marguerite did the bookkeeping for the station and also worked at the elevator in Agra during the harvest time for several years.

Marguerite became the school secretary for Eastern Heights Schools in Agra and remained in that position until her retirement. She thoroughly enjoyed her time there working with the students and staff.
Marguerite loved fishing and camping with Bud and especially enjoyed the friends she and Bud made after purchasing a cabin in the North Shore Marina Trailer Park. They could often be found sitting on someone's deck, playing cards or solving the world's problems.

Marguerite had a very keen sense of humor and a quick wit. She loved her children, grandchildren, and great–grandchildren implicitly.

She will be sadly missed by her daughters, Connie Hanke and husband, Alan, of Phillipsburg, KS and Peggy Toler of Colorado Springs, CO; her grandchildren: Ryan Hanke of Milwaukee, WI, Chelsey FitzPatrick and husband, Michael, of Phillipsburg, Cheyenne Toler of Hays, KS and Hunter Toler of Castle Rock, CO; and great-grandchildren: Corey, Ciara, Cailyn and Cabhan FitzPatrick, all of Phillipsburg.

Cremation was chosen. Memorial services will be held Friday, Oct. 23, at 10:30 a.m. in the Olliff-Boeve Memorial Chapel, Phillipsburg, with Pastor Joel Hiesterman officiating. Inurnment will follow in the Fairview Cemetery, Phillipsburg.

Friends may sign the book on Thursday, Oct. 22, from noon – 9 p.m. at the funeral home, with the family greeting friends from 7:00 – 8:30 p.m. that evening.

Memorial contributions may be given to Hospice Services.
