Marie
Flanigan
November 20, 1921 – June 24, 2019
Leolla Marie Flanigan was born November 20, 1921 on the family farm between Gretna and Agra. She died June 24, 2019 at the age of 97 at the Phillips County Hospital. Her parents were Vern Anderson and Bertha Jane (Rowland) Anderson.
Marie was married to Fred Flanigan in Phillipsburg on December 31, 1950. They were the parents of two children, Gary and Kathy.
She graduated from the Agra High School with the class of 1939. After graduation Marie
worked as a telephone company switchboard operator for the Agra Telephone Company. Marie and her mother Bertha moved to Phillipsburg from the farm after Vern passed away in 1942. She worked at the Phillips County welfare office, the Triple A office and for Co-op in the transportation department prior to getting married.
Marie was a member of the First Christian Church and later joined the Presbyterian Church. She enjoyed time with an EHU club and the Friendly Service Club. She was a wonderful cook and made many meals for hired men and harvest crews with many of the meals served out in the field on the tailgate of a pickup. She enjoyed playing the piano, gardening and helping taking care of the farm animals. Marie was a loving mother and had lots of good times with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents Vern and Bertha and her husband Fred. She is survived by her son Gary Flanigan and wife Carol of Norton, KS; daughter Kathy Kastle and husband Jeff of rural Kirwin, KS. Four grandchildren, Michael Kastle of Hays, KS, J.D. Flanigan and wife Paige of Wellington, Colorado, Devaney Wells and husband Andy of Norton, KS; and Jevon Kastle and wife Jenny of Phillipsburg, KS. She was blessed with 15 great-grandchildren.
Marie was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and will be missed by all who knew her.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, June 28, 2019 in the Olliff-Boeve Memorial Chapel, Phillipsburg, with Pastor Chris Davis officiating. Burial will follow in the Fairview Cemetery, Phillipsburg.
Marie will lie in state from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday and 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday at the Olliff-Boeve Memorial Chapel, Phillipsburg.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Logan Manor Nursing Home.
