Obituary

Marilyn Yvonne (Jones) Hadley of Almena, KS passed away in Norton, KS at the age of 87.

Born February 26, 1935 in rural Graham County, KS.  She was the fourth of ten children of Ivan and Vera (Hodge) Jones.  She graduated from Lenora High School with the class of 1953.  On November 20, 1955 she married Marshall Hadley in Lenora, KS.  They were blessed with two children Marsha Renee and Ronald Duane.

Marilyn worked for S.W. Bell Telephone Co. as a switch board operator in Norton until joining Marshall while he was stationed with the U.S. Air Force in Roswell, NM.  During his tenure there she was employed with Mountain States Telephone until the office terminated.  In 1972 the family moved to Almena where they were engaged in farming.  Marilyn began employment with the Department of Corrections in 1988 as an officer.  Marshall was also employed with the D.O.C. and together they retired on March 31, 2000.

On April 16 th , 1967 she was immersed in Christian Baptism and was a member of the Church of God.  She enjoyed gospel and country western music, gardening, her yard and flowers, and ceramic painting.  She made many Christmas Ornaments over the years for her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren whom she loved very much.  She did volunteer work for the community in many areas over the years.  Marilyn was always busy.

Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents, husband Marshall of 54 plus years, an infant sister Valera Inez, sister Ruby Riemann, brothers Darwin Dean, Carl Ivan, and Darnel Wayne.

Survivors include a son Ron Hadley and wife Natalie of Norton; a daughter Marsha Renee Readle and husband Robert of Norton; 4 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; 1 great great grandchild; a brother Glenn Jones and wife Lee of Lenora, KS; and three sisters: Valeta Poage and husband Bill of Colorado Springs, CO, June Stockman and husband Keith of Colorado Springs, CO, Joyce Hodges and husband Terry Smith of Colorado Springs, CO; and a brother-in-law Kenny Riemann of Edmond, KS.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, March 8, 2022 in the Almena Congregational Church, Almena, KS with Pastor Ron Martin officiating.  Burial will follow in the Norton Cemetery, Norton, KS.

Mrs. Hadley will lie in state from noon until 9 p.m. Monday at the Olliff-Boeve Memorial Chapel, Phillipsburg.  The casket will remain closed.
