Marvin Christopher VanDerVeen, 75, passed away Tuesday, July 2, 2013 at Norton County Hospital. He was born on the family farm to Michael and Dora (Erickson) VanDerVeen on March 20, 1938. He graduated from Long Island High School and then served in the Air Force for four years.
On October 14, 1966, he married Wauneta Schemper. They resided in Prairie View, and he was a devoted farmer and dairyman. They were blessed with two children—daughter Marla and son Curtis.
His life revolved around his family, especially spending time with his children and grandchildren. Attending his grandchildren's events was his passion in life. He was also a member of the Luctor Christian Reformed Church.
Survivors include: his wife, Wauneta, Prairie View; two children, Marla Kuhn, & husband, Toby, Norton; and Curtis VanDerVeen, & wife, Tiffany, Prairie View; one brother, Jay VanDerVeen and wife Judy, Prairie View; two sisters, Marie Pakkebier, Densmore; Helen VanKooten and husband Clifford, Phillipsburg; four grandchildren: Tyler James & Taryn Christine Kuhn and Michael Chase & Chloe Mara VanDerVeen; other relatives and friends.
Marvin was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Calvin and Morris, sister-in-law Deanne VanDerVeen, and brother-in-law Henry Pakkebier.
Funeral services will be held Monday, July 8, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. in the Luctor Christian Reformed Church, Phillips County, with Pastor Ian Van Leeuwen officiating. Burial will follow in the Luctor Cemetery, Phillips County, with military honors by the U.S. Air Force.
Visitation will be noon – 9 p.m. on Saturday & Sunday at the Olliff-Boeve Memorial Chapel, Phillipsburg, KS, with the family receiving friends Sunday evening from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m.
Memorial contributions may be given to the Luctor Christian Reformed Church or the Johnson Cancer Research Center at KSU.
