Mary Alice Barnes, daughter of Harry Cole and Goldie (King) Cole, was born August 6, 1932 in Smith County, Kansas. She left this earthly life on September 12, 2016 at the Phillips County Retirement Center in Phillipsburg, Kansas, at the age of 84 years.
She attended grade school in Cedar, Kansas and high school in Agra, Kansas.
On April 15, 1949 Mary was united in marriage to Delbert Barnes in Phillipsburg, Kansas. The couple was blessed with four sons: Merlin, Derbin, Dennis and Monte. They were fortunate to celebrate 53 years of marriage before Delbert's death on February 8, 2003.
Mary was a dedicated homemaker, wife and mother. She enjoyed country living, growing flowers, going for walks and the beauty of nature. Mary also liked time with her friends, going shopping, and singing. One of her greatest joys was cooking for her family and spending time with her grandchildren & great-grandchildren.
She was also a faithful servant and long-time member of the Church of Christ in Phillipsburg.
Her parents; two sons, Dennis and Monte Barnes; and four brothers, Reed Cole, Max Cole, Junior Cole and Martin Cole, preceded her in death.
Survivors include her sons, Derbin & wife, Sue, of Phillipsburg, KS and Merlin & wife, Lillian, of Olathe, KS; her brother, LaVon Cole of Phillipsburg; four grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and many nieces & nephews.
Funeral services will be held Friday, Sept. 16 at 10:30 a.m. in the Olliff-Boeve Memorial Chapel with Robert Keesee officiating. Burial will follow in the Agra Cemetery, Agra.
Visitation will be from 5:00 to 9:00 Wed. & 9:00 to 9:00 Thursday at the funeral home.
