Logan resident, Mary Lou Breese, passed away peacefully on October 31, 2026, at the Logan Manor, in Logan, Kansas, at the age of 98.

Mary Lou was born on July 9, 1928, in Logan, Kansas, to her parents Earl and Alpha (Ray) Post. She graduated from Logan High School. In her earlier years, she would babysit. Her family’s home was the gathering place for many neighborhood children.

She was united in marriage to Joe Breese on August 30, 1948, in Phillipsburg, Kansas.

Mary Lou and Joe along with Joe’s parents would occasionally find time to go fishing at the Logan Lake or local pond.

She began working for the Logan Manor, housekeeping for about 20 years before retiring.

Mary Lou loved nature and loved caring for her birds, squirrels, flowers, and for a time, any of the neighborhood cats that wanted a free meal.

Mary Lou was, most of all, proud of her grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren. She loved their visits and any time she would get to spend with them. Anyone who walked through her door would get to see pictures of all her cherished grandchildren. In the Manor, she enjoyed hearing the children playing at the playground and on occasion, would get to go outside and watch them play.

Mary Lou is preceded in death by her husband Joe, son Randy, parents Earl and Alpha, brothers Frankie, Ronnie, and Tom, sisters Ann Lowry and Marilyn Ross, and granddaughter Chassidy Breese.

Survivors include sons Phil Breese and wife Phyllis of Smith Center, Kansas, and Dick Breese and wife Dee of Hill City, Kansas, grandchildren LeRoy Breese and wife Terri, Sheri Frieling and husband Cory, Jami Breese, Ross Breese and wife Arin, Dayna Summers and husband Derick, Brandi Archer, Dustin Breese and wife Autumn, and Brady Breese and wife Allyson, 15 great grandchildren, and 5 great great grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, November 4, 2026, at 10 a.m., at the First Christian Church of Logan, with Pastor Troy Buss officiating. Burial will follow at the Pleasant View Cemetery, in Logan, Kansas.

Mary Lou will lie in state on Monday from 12 p.m. to 8 p.m. and Tuesday from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. at the Logan Funeral Home, in Logan, Kansas. The family will receive friends for a visitation Tuesday evening from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Logan Funeral Home.
