Melton Dean Watson, firstborn son of twin boys, was born to Russell & Marcelle (Watson) Stowell in Webster, Kansas on September 6, 1947. This marriage soon ended and the boys' names were changed to Watson, their mother's maiden name.
Melton attended Linwood High School in California. He & his brother, Delton, were baptized and confirmed into the Catholic faith at St. Philip Neri in Compton, CA.
After high school Melton enlisted in the United States Army, serving during the Vietnam War stationed in Germany and Hawaii. He worked as a Field Wireman and Pole Lineman, achieving the rank of Sgt. E-5 before his discharge.
Following his military service Melton worked construction jobs specializing in electrical work.
He was the father of five children: Melanie, Rachel, Melissa, Kimberly and Mel Dean.
Melton loved his children and grandchildren and treasured any time that they were able to spend together.
Preceding him in death were his mother & stepfather, Marcelle & Lucian "LB" Hawkins, Jr., and his twin brother, Delton Watson.
Survivors include his children: Melanie & husband, Kerry Moore, and Melissa & husband, Darrin Evans, all of Kentucky; Rachel & husband, Preston Filipek, of Wisconsin; Kimberly & husband, Justin Pratt, of Oregon; and Mel Dean Victor of California; twelve grandchildren; one great-grandchild; as well as one niece and nephew.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, March 3 at 1:00 p.m. in the Olliff-Boeve Memorial, Phillipsburg.
Friends may sign the book from 9:00 to 5:00 Friday at the funeral home. Memorials may be left to the Wounded Warriors Project.
