Paul and Millie made their home and raised their five children in Phillipsburg, Kansas, aside from a temporary move to Denver, Colorado during World War II, where Paul contributed to the war effort by working in a defense plant as a naval welder, fabricating pontoons.

Millie lived her life as a strong, active lady committed to her husband, her children, grandchildren, her community and the First Presbyterian Church. She served many times on the church's governing board and has served as president of the Phillipsburg PTA. Millie served for many years as volunteer with the Phillipsburg Hospital Auxiliary.
