Phillipsburg resident Nadine Van Allen passed away Monday, April 20, 2015 at the Phillips County Retirement Center in Phillipsburg, Kansas at the age of 87.
She was born March 13, 1928 in Smith County, Kansas, the daughter of Melvin & Cleo (Strickland) Moore. She attended school in Smith Center, Kansas. She was united in marriage to Warren Campbell her Junior year of High School in 1947. To this union two sons, Jerry & Nick, were born. The couple later divorced.
Nadine then met and married a respected farmer and United States Army World War II veteran, Eldon Van Allen on April 6, 1963 in Phillipsburg, Kansas. To this union a son and daughter, Randy & Rodeana, were born. The couple molded a loving and caring family and created lasting memories on a farm just outside of Phillipsburg.
Nadine enjoyed raising the children and helping Eldon on the farm; she loved to cook and was host for many family meals. The couple enjoyed assisting the Phillipsburg community and drove school buses for the school system. They enjoyed an end of the school year tradition where they allowed the children to have a water balloon fight prior to cleaning out the school buses. They deeply enjoyed mentoring and providing for children in need. Along with her duties on the farm, driving a school bus, and raising her family, Nadine also worked at Duckwalls in Phillipsburg. Additionally, she was a lifelong member of the United Methodist Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Eldon, on January 18, 2007; sons, Jerry Campbell and Randy Van Allen; brother, Meldean Moore; sister, Roverta Lyon.
Survivors include son, Nick Campbell & Veda of Cherokee, Oklahoma; daughter, Rodeana Van Allen of Seaside, Oregon; sister Janice Grammon & husband Claude of Winfield, Kansas; brother-in-law, Billie D. Lyon of Smith Center; 6 grandchildren; and 8 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, April 23, at 10:30 a.m. in the Olliff-Boeve Memorial Chapel, Phillipsburg, with Pastor Gary Davison officiating. Burial will follow in the Fairview Cemetery, Phillipsburg.
Mrs. Van Allen will lie in-state on Wednesday from 9 a.m. – 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
A memorial fund will be designated before the service.
