Nancy Ann McDermed, daughter of Eugene and Doris (Atkins) Tackwell, was born on August 29, 1937 in Phillips County, KS and passed away October 20, 2015 at Hays Medical Center in Hays, KS at the age of 78.
Nancy graduated from Phillipsburg High School in 1955. After graduation, she worked at KN Energy.
On May 19, 1957, Nancy was united in marriage to Frank McDermed in Phillipsburg, KS. Most of their married life was spent living on the family farm east of Phillipsburg until moving into Phillipsburg in 2009. To this union five daughters were born: Peggy, Marla, Connie, Kelli and Kandi.
After starting a family Nancy chose to stay home with the girls through their school years, then after Frank retired she went to work part-time at the Mark V Motel for close to 10 years.
While Nancy was a homemaker, she enjoyed cooking and baking for everyone. She was well known for her homemade noodles and Angel food cakes, which she always made from scratch. She also loved baking cookies for the grandkids to have when they stopped by to visit after school. Some of her hobbies were collecting cookbooks and recipes, watching KU basketball, sitting on her patio swing watching the birds and she loved her flower garden.
She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She loved going to her girls', grandkids' and great- grandkids' school activities and sporting events.
Her greatest joy was spending time with her grandkids and great-grandkids.
Nancy was preceded in death by her husband, Frank; her parents, Eugene and Doris Tackwell; and her niece, Tammy Tackwell.
She is survived by her daughters: Marla and Kandi of the home, Peggy Fabin and husband, Tom, Connie Capps and husband, Melvin, and Kelli Brandon and husband, Jack, all of Phillipsburg; six
grandchildren: Kim Bui, Jessica Campbell and husband, David ,and Rachel and Emily Brandon, all of Phillipsburg; Mike Fabin and Tasha Pulec of Hays KS; and Jacque Runyon and husband, Guy, of Kirwin KS; nine great-grandkids: Thomas, Michaela and Jeremiah Bui, Kaycee and Kyle Campbell, and Blake Fabin all of Phillipsburg; Madyson and Lilyan Runyon of Kirwin, KS; and Breckin Fabin of Hays, KS. Also surviving is a sister, Vickie Barg and husband, Loren, of Lincoln, NE; brother, Bill Tackwell and wife, Dee, of Hastings, NE; four nephews and two nieces.
Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, October 26, 2015 at the Fairview Cemetery, Phillipsburg with Jay Brandon officiating.
Mrs. McDermed will lie in state from noon until 9 p.m. Saturday and Sunday in the Olliff-Boeve Memorial Chapel, 1115 2nd Street, Phillipsburg, KS 67661.
