Ollie Irene Smith was born July 27, 1936 in Phillips County, Kansas, the daughter of Fred L. & Wilma Fay (Weaver) Albright, and she died May 27, 2012 at her home in Speed, Kansas at the age of 75.
She lived with her family on the farm southwest of Speed until they moved into town. She attended grade school in Speed and High School in Phillipsburg. Ollie was more likely to spend time outdoors helping her father than spending time in the home helping her mother.
She was united in marriage to Lonnie L. Smith on December 25, 1956 in Phillipsburg. They made their home in Speed. Together they were baptized in the Calvary Baptist Church in Phillipsburg.
Ollie kept busy her entire life. Prior to her marriage she worked various jobs in Speed, worked at Rankin Drug in Phillipsburg and then the ASCS office in Phillipsburg. She left the ASCS office to help care for her father. Following her father's death, she worked in housekeeping at the Mark V and Cottonwood Inn in Phillipsburg and then the Logan Manor in Logan.
Her interests were always outside, tending to her garden, taking care of the animals, especially her horses, helping Lonnie around the house and with his many hunting expeditions.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Wayne & Kenneth and also two infant brothers.
Survivors include her husband, Lonnie, of the home; two sisters, Lorraine Pinkerton of Denver, CO and Marge Hembree of Garden City, KS; and a host of nieces & nephews.
Graveside services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, June 1, 2012 in the Fairview Cemetery, Phillipsburg with Pastor Joel Hiesterman officiating.
Friends may sign the book from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday at the Olliff-Boeve Memorial Chapel, Phillipsburg. The casket will remain closed.
