Opal G. Cannon, 92, of Derby, KS (formerly from Phillipsburg, KS) died October 15, 2010 at Lakeview Village in Lenexa, KS. She was born July 13, 1918 on her parents' farm near Glade, KS. She married Edwin L. Cannon on July 13, 1938 in Phillipsburg.
Opal was raised in Phillips County and until 1961 she and Ed made their home in Phillipsburg. Since that time she has lived in Hutchinson and Derby, KS, and for the last eight years was a resident of Lakeview Village in Lenexa, KS.
She was a life member of Eastern Star and a member of the United Methodist Church. She was very devoted to her family and enjoyed baking and sewing. For several years Opal worked with her husband in Cannon Oil Company. Later in life she worked at Hancock Fabric in Wichita, KS.
Opal was preceded in death by her parents, Elmer & Martha Loyd; brothers Newt and Ted, and her sister, Vera Hanchett. She lost her husband, Ed, in 2000 and missed him very much.
She is survived by a daughter, Donna Crist and her husband, Bill, of Turlock, CA and a son, Jim and his wife, Elaine, of Lenexa; five grandchildren: Becky Williams, Jeff Crist, Rachel Cannon, Kelly Boeckman and Wes Cannon; and one great-grandson, Ian Boeckman.
Graveside services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, October 25, 2010 in the Fairview Cemetery, Phillipsburg, with Rev. Phillip Morris officiating and the Pleiades Chapter No. 168 Order of the Eastern Star Services. Mrs. Cannon will lie in state from noon until 9 p.m. Saturday & Sunday at the Olliff-Boeve Memorial Chapel, Phillipsburg. The casket will remain closed.
