Obituary

Patricia LaVerne Henry, daughter of Eva Gertrude (Shoopman) Henry & Walter J. Henry, was born in Decatur County, Indiana on September 25, 1939. She left this world July 11, 2011 at the Hays Medical Center in Hays, Kansas at the age of 71.

Patricia was the second-born child in a family of six children. She attended school until 5th grade, then stayed at home to help with the chores. At the age of 21, Patricia was blessed with a daughter, Teresa Kay, and two years later, a son, Jeffrey Banks. Although she never married, Patricia had a caring companion for 19 years, George Huntley, who passed away in 1986.

Following George's death, she moved from Osborne, Kansas to Phillipsburg and lived with her daughter, Teresa, for two years. Then she and her brother, Dale, found an apartment together at Westview Homes in Phillipsburg, where she lived until her illness forced her into the hospital.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her companion, George; a great-grandson, Lochlan Gitchel; an infant brother, Charles Leroy Henry; a sister, Nellie Kness; and a sister-in-law, Jerry Taylor.

Survivors include her daughter, Teresa Gitchel & special friend, Daryl Hulen, of Phillipsburg; her son, Jeff Banks & companion, Bev, of Arizona; grandchildren: Ricky Gitchel II & wife, Bobbie; Brandon Gitchel & wife, Courtney; Mickey Gitchel and Dustin Gitchel, all of Phillipsburg; great-grandchildren: Dakota, Shaylena, Hunter, Parker, Lane and Gunnar; brothers, Dale Henry of Phillipsburg; Jessie Henry & wife, Kay, of Florida; and Alvin Henry & wife, Ginger, of Texas; a son-in-law, Rick Gitchel of Phillipsburg; and numerous nieces & nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, July 16, 2011, in the Olliff-Boeve Memorial Chapel, Phillipsburg, with Pastor Tim Kraft officiating. Burial will follow in the Downs Cemetery, Downs, KS with Pastor Dave Pugh officiating.

Patricia will lie in state from Noon until 9 p.m. Thursday, 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday and until service time Saturday at the funeral home.
