Obituary

Patricia Ann Grant was born June 27, 1946 in Perth Amboy, New Jersey, the daughter of William and Helen Grant. She was part of the post WWII baby boom generation said to have been born in a hospital corridor because the hospital didn't have enough rooms for the large number of women giving birth at that time.

A few years later the family moved to Hoisington, Kansas where Pat spent her childhood years. A brother, Jim, and a brother, John, were born during the next few years. In 1964 Pat graduated from Hoisington High School and that fall went on to attend Fort Hays College. Later that fall she met her future husband, John Ruff, whom she married on January 26, 1966 in the student chapel. Time at Fort Hays State was followed by time at Kansas State University, where she finished a degree in Education while her husband finished graduate study in Economics.

A few years later the couple returned to Logan to the Ruff family farm. A son, Jason, was born December 22, 1973, followed by a daughter, Pamela, on January 14, 1976.

Those who remember Norm's Supper Club probably remember that Pat was one of the cooks there from the time the business started until Norm sold it. Much of her time after that was spent as a Curator in local museums, first at Fort Bissell in Phillipsburg and later at the Logan Area Historical Museum in Logan. She worked there until the fall of 2011 when an injury forced her to retire. Several months were spent in nursing homes while she recovered from the injury.

Sometime before that, Pat contracted Parkinson's Disease. She was able to live at home until August, 2012, when the disease had progressed to the point where hospitalization became necessary. After three weeks in the hospital she was sent to Logan Manor. Despite her struggle to resist the disease's progress, she finally lost that battle on Saturday morning, October 25, 2014.

During her last few years at home Pat became a big fan of TV westerns, particularly Bonanza and Little House on the Prairie. She was also a huge K-State fan and watched most of their football and basketball games, encouraged by the big improvement of both teams over the last few years.

Pat was always very interested in History and thoroughly enjoyed working in the museums. During her last years at home on the wall next to her chair was an Abraham Lincoln quote given to her by her daughter: "All that I am or hope to be, I owe to my angel mother."

Pat is survived by her husband, John, of the home in rural Logan, KS; her son, Jason, and her daughter, Pamela Ross & husband, Kevin, all of Independence, MO; brothers Jim Grant of Nashville, TN and John Grant of Olathe, KS.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, October 29, 2014 in the Logan Funeral Home in Logan, with Pastor Joel Hiesterman officiating. Burial will follow in the Prairie Dale Cemetery in Graham County, KS.
