Obituary

Patty Jane Wheaton Pumphrey, daughter of Lavern Alvin "Casey" Wheaton and Frances Myrtle Johnson, was born June 14, 1935 in Phillipsburg Ks. and passed away June 24 2011 at Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney, Ne. at the age of 76 years and 10 days.

Patty lived in Phillips County all her life; she attended school in Phillips County and graduated from Phillipsburg High School with class of 1953. On August 30, 1953 Patty married Lewis A (Doc) Pumphrey in Phillipsburg. They lived in Phillipsburg and later Glade Ks. To this union 3 sons were born: Foy, Wyatt & Clinton.

She was a member of the United Methodist Church and later the Glade Methodist Church. Patty was a member of the Kansas Pinto Horse Association, Kansas Saddle Horse Association and other Horse organizations. She also was an active 4-H leader and taught Sunday school for many years.

Patty enjoyed her family, friends, horses, cats, gardening, playing piano, working in her tack shop and going to auctions.

She traveled to many horse shows in her early years to show and then to help her children show and in later years help her grandchildren show. In the later years she also setup a booth and sold western wear and tack at the horse shows.

Survivors include her widower, Lewis; 3 sons: Foy Pumphrey and wife, Debra of Eagle Rock, Mo., Wyatt Pumphrey and wife, Sheary of Phillipsburg and Clinton Pumphrey of Stockton; 5 Grandchildren: Jasmine Pumphrey of Phillipsburg, Abra Pumphrey of Fayetteville Ar., Zachary Pumphrey of Plainville, Levi Pumphrey of Phillipsburg and Matthew Pumphrey of Stockton; brother, John Wheaton and wife Jeanie; sisters, Karen Dunning and husband, David and Carolyn Jones; along with many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Frances in 1978 and father, Lavern "Casey" in 1993.

Olliff-Boeve Memorial Chapel, Phillipsburg, is in charge of arrangements. Cremation was planned; there will be no visitation. The family will have a private inurnment in the Marvin Cemetery, Glade, KS at a later date. Friends may sign her register book Tues., Wed. & Thurs. from 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to Elizabeth House in Kearney, NE or the donor's choice.
