Paul Arnold Hunt, son of Jamie Rufus and Ollie Zelva (Corley) Hunt, was born in Marion, Kentucky on March 18, 1926 and departed this life on Tuesday, November 19, 2013 at the Phillips County Hospital in Phillipsburg, Kansas at the age of 87.
Paul began his lifelong career with the Phillipsburg Cooperative Association & Farmland Industries in 1942, working at the Coop service station while he was still in high school. After graduating from Phillipsburg High School in 1944, he was inducted into the U.S. Navy and served during World War II. He was honorably discharged on August 13, 1946.
Paul returned to Phillipsburg after his military service and went back to work at the station until 1949, when he began working in the Coop warehouse. On June 15, 1947 he was united in marriage to Donna Jean Lemon in Kirwin, Kansas. This union was blessed with the birth of a son, Randy, and a daughter, Gwen.
In 1953 Paul's job changed again when he started working in the Catalytic Cracking Unit at the Coop refinery. In 1982 he transferred to a job on the Loading Rack and continued in that capacity until his retirement in 1991, having served the company for a total of 42 years.
Paul was an active member of the Phillipsburg United Methodist Church, serving as a leader for the United Methodist Men, as Trustee, and also as Communion Steward. He participated in Promise Keepers and was a strong supporter of the TFC Connection.
In his spare time he loved woodworking and built many special pieces for family, friends and neighbors. In addition to those projects, he & Donna created many Easter crosses and Advent wreaths for church members, along with Christmas decorations for the church. This became a hobby that they shared together and they both enjoyed.
Paul was a loving husband, father and grandfather who was known for his kind heart and sense of humor. He loved to laugh, tell jokes and pull pranks on people. He treasured his family and always looked forward to spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Paul was also a trusted friend and neighbor who offered a "helping hand" whenever he could. One of his grandchildren summed it up this way: "A little part of Grandpa will live on in each of us. Heaven has gotten a good one."
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jamie & Zelva; his sister, Norma & husband Orlis; brother, Wendell & wife, Colleen; an infant brother and sister; niece, Pat Koehn; and nephew, Brian Allison.
