Obituary

Phyllis J. Leichliter Winslow, 76, a longtime resident of Long Island, KS died Sunday, July 29 at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney, NE.

She was born July 14, 1942 in Norton, KS to James Jacob, Sr. and Iris Reba (Jones) Leichliter. She grew up in Westminister, CO and later moved to Goodland, KS when she was ten years old. She graduated from Goodland High School in 1960.

On June 5, 1960 she married Robert "Bob" Winslow in Goodland, KS. They moved to Norton, KS in 1980 and then to Long Island, KS in 1984 where they have resided ever since.

Phyllis had worked at many places including the Boyington Restaurant and C&G Truck Stop both in Goodland, KS, the Kansas State Hospital and DSNWK in Norton, KS and the Logan Manor Assisted Facility in Logan, KS. She had also sold Amway, Mark Kay, Avon, and Tupperware through the years.

During her spare time, she enjoyed bingo, bowling, playing cards and board games, shopping, arts and crafts projects. Also, she was a member of the Moose Lodge Auxiliary in Goodland, KS, the United Transportation Union Local #44 Auxiliary in Goodland, KS, and the Eagles Auxiliary in Norton, KS.

Survivors include her sister Jeanett (John) Cozadd of Goodland, KS; her sister-in-law Mable Kohne of Burlington, CO; her son-in-law Charles Hawley of Nahunta, GA; her two daughters Retina Jacobs (Tim Drake) of Wichita, KS and Redeara (Leroy) Godfrey of Long Island, KS. She will also be remembered by her seven grandchildren and two step grandchildren, Jessica Adamson, Cora Jacobs, John (Stephanie) Godfrey, Robin Garcia, Larry Jacobs, Crystal (Branden) Heusted, Rusty Jacobs, Todd Jacobs, and Robert Drake; the four great grandchildren and three step great grandchildren, Enrique, Noah, Zoie, Lydia, Charlie, Savannah, and Ayden.

Phyllis was preceded in death by her husband, one daughter Roberta L. Hawley, one granddaughter Retabitha L. Griggs, one great granddaughter Allie M. Cole, both parents, and one brother James J. Leichliter, Jr.


Cremation was chosen. A memorial service will be held Sat., August 18th at 4:30 p.m. in the Long Island United Methodist Church with Pastor Ted Stapleton officiating.
