Obituary

Raymond Ray Calhoon, son of Lee & Edna (Ross) Calhoon, was born in Phillips County, Kansas on September 8, 1923 and passed away on September 13, 2015 at the Kensington Health & ReHab Center in Kensington, Kansas, having just celebrated his 92nd birthday.
He was united in marriage to Ruby I. Chestnut on October 4, 1942. The couple was blessed with three sons - James Ray, Kenneth Lee and Gary Russell - and one daughter, Linda Kay. Ray & Ruby raised their family in Woodston, Kansas and then Glade, Kansas.
Ray, Ruby and Jimmy were baptized by a Nazarene minister, Whitey Gleason, in the Parker Pond by Speed, Kansas.
During his lifetime Ray worked hard at many different kinds of jobs. He sold popcorn as a boy outside the movie theater, worked for the railroad, and drove trucks for himself and for Malke U.S. Mail Hauling.
His wife, Ruby, passed away on December 21, 2003. Ray continued to live in Glade until health problems forced him to move to Phillipsburg, Kansas.
He loved to visit with people and often rode his scooter uptown. He had many stories to tell and thoroughly enjoyed telling them.
Ray was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He loved his family and they loved him. He also had a very special companion - his cat, Tom - whom he adored.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Ruby; his son, James Ray; his daughter, Linda Kay; and three brothers: Leonard, Vernon and Willis.
Survivors include his sons, Kenneth Calhoon & wife, Lynn, of Bartlesville, OK and Gary Calhoon & wife, Rhonda, of Glade, KS; three grandsons: Troy Lee, Dustin Kent and Jason Lee; a great-grandson, Aaron Lee; two great-granddaughters, Brandi DeLapp and Valery Esparanza; brothers-in-law, Doyle Johnson and LeRoy Braun; and sisters-in-law, Willa Chestnut, Marilyn Chestnut and Nancy Chestnut.

Funeral services will be held Friday, Sept. 18 at 2:00 p.m. in the Olliff-Boeve Memorial Chapel, Phillipsburg, with Pastor Dave Pugh officiating. Burial will follow in the Marvin Cemetery, Glade.

Visitation will be from 9:00 to 9:00 Wednesday & Thursday at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Phillips County EMS.
