Obituary

Rex Dean Burger was born March 29, 1927 in Cawker City, Kansas and passed away peacefully in his sleep December 31, 2020 at the age of 93. In 1934 the family moved to a farm located north of Agra, Kansas to be near his grandparents. Rex attended Country School and graduated from Agra High School in 1944. He immediately enlisted in the Army. After three years in the service he returned home and farmed with his father. In 1952 he went to work for the Bureau of Reclamation overseeing the construction of the Kirwin Dam. In 1954 he married Willa Jean Gibson and to this union were three sons. Working for the Bureau over the years required the family to make several moves. Rex worked on projects in Kansas, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Colorado, Utah and finally on the Central Arizona Project in Glendale Arizona.  He was an avid sports fan and one thing he enjoyed was being the business manager of several of his sons Pop Warner Football teams. He also served two years as treasurer for the North Central Association which included 20 teams. He retired from the Bureau after 34 years of service and went to work for 6 years for Bookman/Edmonston Engineering Consulting Firm constructing canals taking water from the C.A.P. and delivering it to three irrigation districts located in the vicinity of Casa Grande Arizona.

Willa Jean his wife of 47 years passed away in 2001. Rex continued to live in their home in Glendale Arizona. Rex was a life time member of the Elks Club and Agra American Legion. After several years Rex married Connie Minnig and they continued to live in Glendale. They joined the Glendale Senior Center and went on many long trips throughout Arizona and several western states.

Graveside services were held at Agra City Cemetery. Survivors are his wife Connie, sons Rodney and Randy Burger of Glendale Arizona, son Roger and wife Judi Burger and two grandchildren Taylor and Bre Anna and great grandson Austin who live in Lake Havasu City, Arizona and Brother Terry Burger of Overland Park, Kansas, Sisters in law Carla Burger and Louise Burger and many nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held Sat. Jan 9, 2021 at 1:00 p.m. in the Agra Cemetery with Pastor Blake Stanwood officiating.  The service will be streamed live on the Olliff-Boeve Memorial Chapel Facebook page.
