Obituary

Richard Dean Hockman was born in Hoxie Kansas on March 23, 1931 to Ora Hockman and Martha Boys. He died on November 30, 2012 at the age of 81 years, 8 months, and 7 days, at the Norton County Hospital.
As a young child he moved from Hoxie to Colorado, and later to Densmore to attend Densmore High School, where he graduated with the class of 1949. He served in the US Marine Corp. during the Korean War, and was a member of the American Legion in Norton.
He married Rita Marie Riemann on August 7, 1951 in Densmore, Kansas at St. Mary's Catholic Church. To this union, 6 children were born, Paul, Robert, Keith, Mary Theresa, Lyle, and Kirk. In 1954, they moved to the farm north of Densmore, and in 1958 they moved to their current home where Richard and Rita farmed until he retired in 2010. Richard loved to hunt, talk on the telephone, and was always there to lend a helping hand.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents Ora and Martha; son, Paul; daughter, Mary Theresa; great grandson, Ethan Sauron Hockman; brother, George Therwin Hockman; brother-in-laws, Harold Riemann, Duane Riemann, and Gene Walters.
Survivors include his wife Rita Hockman; children, Robert Hockman and wife Beverly of Salina, KS; Keith Hockman and wife Patti of Plainville, KS; Lyle Hockman and wife Brenda of Phillipsburg, KS; Kirk Hockman and wife Anita of Topeka, KS; eleven grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; sister-in-laws Joan Riemann, Ruth and husband Roger Roe of Osage City, KS; Karen Walters of Albion, NE; Mary Ellen Posson of Norton, KS; Darlene Hockman of Centennial, CO; Lila Riemann of Phillipsburg, KS; bother-in-law, Bernard Riemann of Mesquite, NV; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Richard had struggled with multiple medical complications in his life, especially in the last 13 years. Nevertheless, he will long be remembered by his friends as loyal, yet always eager to joke and tease.
Rosary service will be held Sunday evening, Dec. 2, at 7:00 p.m. in the Logan Funeral Home, Logan, KS.
Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday, Dec. 3, at 11:00 a.m. in the St. John's Catholic Church, Logan, KS, with Father George Chalbhagam officiating. Burial will follow in the Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Densmore, KS with military honors.
Visitation will be Sunday from noon – 9:00 p.m. at the Logan Funeral Home.
Memorial contributions may be given to the Mt. Calvary Cemetery Fence Fund.
