IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Rita M.
Hockman
July 15, 1933 – October 24, 2020
Rita Marie (Riemann) Hockman was born in a farm house located at the bottom of the hill just northeast of the Densmore Mt Calvary Cemetery on July 15, 1933. Her parents were Alfonse Riemann and Lucile Alice Bernard. She died on October 24, 2020 at the age of 87 years, 3 months and 9 days.
Rita attended school in the Densmore Rural School District. In high school she enjoyed playing basketball with her future maid-of-honor and sister-in-law Edna Koester. Rita graduated from Densmore High School in 1951. After getting married she traveled with Richard to Pensacola, FL where Richard was stationed with the US Marine Corp. Rita worked in a drug store as a soda jerk while in Florida. After returning back to Densmore, they started farming and a family.
She married Richard Dean Hockman on August 7, 1951 in Densmore, Kansas at St Mary's Catholic Church. To this union, 6 children were born, Paul, Robert, Keith, Mary Theresa, Lyle and Kirk. In 1954, they moved to the Marx Place to start farming, they moved to their current farm in 1958 and then purchased it in 1962. Richard and Rita farmed until they retired in 2010. Rita was able to stay on the farm until early 2020, then moved to Phillipsburg and then finally to the Norton Andbe Home.
Rita was preceded in death by her parents, Alf and Alice; husband, Richard; son, Paul; daughter, Mary Theresa; great grandson, Ethan Hockman; brother, Harold Riemann; brother-in-law Gene Walters; brother, Duane Riemann; sister, Karen Walters; sister-in-law, Joan Riemann;
Survivors include children: Robert Hockman and wife Beverly of Salina, KS; Keith Hockman and wife Patti of Victoria, KS; Lyle Hockman and wife Brenda of Phillipsburg; Kirk Hockman and wife Anita of Topeka, KS; eleven grandchildren, nine great grandchildren; Brother, Bernie Riemann of Norton, KS; Sisters, Ruth and husband Roger Roe of Osage City, KS; Mary Ellen Posson of Norton, KS; Sister-In-Laws, Darlene Hockman of Centennial, CO; Edna Riemann of Phillipsburg, KS; Lila Riemann of Phillipsburg; and numerous nieces and nephews.
One time when we were out driving and headed to the Marx Place, as we drove by Mt Calvary Cemetery she said, "I was born down at the bottom of the hill in a farm house that was near that windmill and I will end up at the top of the hill (Mt Cavalry Cemetery)." With her devotion to the Catholic religion, that would be her life's completed journey.
We all loved her homemade chocolate cake, that always fell, with caramel icing and the homemade cinnamon rolls. She was a great cook and fantastic mother.
After being awesome for 87+ years, she felt it was time to go home for a well deserved rest. She should be able to stop worrying about all of us, and be able to watch over us from up above
