Robert A. (Bob) Christensen, of Phillipsburg, KS, passed away January 3, 2021 at the Phillips County Hospital, Phillipsburg, KS at the age of 78. He was born January 12, 1942 at Ft. Riley, KS, the son of Charles and Melinda (Reinert) Christensen. He was baptized into the Lutheran Church February 18, 2942.
Robert grew up in Washington County, KS, where he attended school until his family moved to Salina, KS when he was 12 years old. In February of 1958, while he was a sophomore and she was a freshman, he met his future wife, bare-foot in the snow, which let to them to getting married 8/27/1961 after Sharon had graduated.
For the first few years of their marriage, they spent many nights and weekends at the race tracks in between Bob working on engines at a speed shop, until their first their first child was on the way and they had to settle in to parenthood. In 1963 they moved to McPherson where he worked for Thompson truck line before going to work for Farmland Industries for 17 years. That career moved them to Kansas City, Coffeyville and Phillipsburg, KS in 1973 where they settled and raised their family of four children; Richard, Julie, Terry and Shane. In 1984 he began driving a truck for Tamko Asphalt Products in Phillipsburg and worked there until approximately 1991 when he semi-retired. During his truck driving career he won multiple awards for safe driving such as 18 years with no accidents and 1.8 million miles accident free. While being semi-retired, he drove for B & B Redimix and also drove the school bus which he thoroughly loved.
Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 59 years, Sharon (Felton) Christensen of Phillipsburg and their four children and one foster son. Son Richard and wife Sherri of Grain Valley, MO; Daughter Julie Horn and husband Randy of Phillipsburg; Son Terry Christensen and husband Gary Kellison of Kingsville, MO; Son Shane and wife Christie of Phillipsburg and Foster Son Michael Quach and wife Trinh of San Jose, CA. His sister Donna Larson of Arlington, WA and step sister Christa (Christensen) Meisinger and husband Adam of McPherson; 13 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and Baby Tharman on the way. He is also survived by 4 sister and brothers in laws, several cousins and many nieces and nephews.
Robert was proceeded in death by his parents Charles and Malinda Christensen, his mother and father-in-law Carol and Geraldine Felton (who loved him like a son). His brother-in-law Mike Larson, his nephew Johnny Bockius, his niece Michelle Larson and his great grandson Trenton Horn.
Funeral services will be held Wed. Jan. 6, 2021 at 10:00 a.m. in the First Lutheran Church, Phillipsburg, with Pastor James Peterson officiating. Masks are required. The service will be streamed live on the Olliff-Boeve Memorial Chapel Facebook page. Burial will follow in the Fairview Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5:00 to 9:00 p.m. Tues at the Olliff-Boeve Memorial Chapel, Phillipsburg.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Church or St. Jude's Children's Hospital.
