Robert Dale Moffatt, son of Robert Carl Moffatt & Inez Boque (Oglesby) Moffatt, was born in Amarillo, Texas on February 27, 1947 and passed away at the Wesley Medical Center in Wichita, Kansas on October 6, 2018 at the age of 71.
Bob grew up in Sunray, Texas, at the Diamond Shamrock Plant where his father worked as a Foreman. He spent lots of time playing baseball with the other boys who lived at the plant and also with his Dad, who spent countless hours on the field with him and helped coach whatever team he was playing on. In 1965 Bob graduated from Dumas High School in Texas then attended the University of Kansas in Lawrence, where he earned a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration.
During his time at KU he played first base on the college baseball team and was also fortunate enough to meet his beautiful future wife, Penny Miles. The couple married on June 4, 1969. They finished their college careers in Lawrence and then moved to Holdrege, NE, where Bob co-managed a grocery store. In 1971 they relocated to Phillipsburg, KS where Bob went into business with his father-in-law, Edgar Miles, at the Miles Furniture Store. He operated and managed the business until 2012.
In 1972 Robert & Penny were blessed with a daughter, Stacy, and then in 1974, a son, Ryan. His children were the greatest joys of his life. He spent hours playing catch with Stacy & Ryan, coaching baseball, and attending their school & sports activities. The family loved going to the lake and waterskiing as well. After his four grandchildren were born, Robert loved taking them out on the boat, playing cards and games with them, and watching their many school events.
Bob was a member of Kiwanis, Elks Lodge, Phillipsburg Chamber of Commerce, and the First Christian Church, where he served as a deacon. He loved fishing, playing golf, dancing, waterskiing, and spending time with his family and friends. He especially loved playing cards on Wednesday nights.
For the last few years Bob & Penny travelled south to Texas where they loved meeting new people and spending time near the water. He had a passion for life that was contagious and a hearty, unforgettable laugh that will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
His parents, Robert and Inez Moffatt, preceded him in death.
