Obituary

Robert L. "Bob" Winslow, 73, of Long Island, KS died Wednesday, June 27 at the Harlan County Health System in Alma, NE.

He was born February 4, 1939 in Burlington, CO to Ulysses and Lydia (Zahn) Winslow. He grew up in Burlington and graduated from Burlington High School.

On June 5, 1960 he married Phyllis J. Leichliter in Goodland, KS.

He lived in Goodland, KS and worked for the Rock Island Railroad until it closed in 1980; then he worked for the Burlington Northern Railroad for 2 years. He moved to Norton, KS and worked for the Norton State Hospital for 6 months then worked for Kyle Railroad until retiring in 1996. He supplemented his income by working various jobs, including helping in many of the area sale barns.

Bob was a member of the Norton, KS Eagle's Lodge and the United Transportation Union Local #44. He enjoyed tending his gardens, watching pro wrestling and he "tolerated" playing BINGO. Another favorite hobby was ropemaking in the traditional method of the early 1900's. Bob was also an avid hunter and always had a book and cup of coffee close at hand.

Survivors include his wife, Phyllis, of Long Island, KS; 3 daughters: Roberta Hawley & husband, Charles of Ellsworth, KS, Retina Jacobs & Tim Drake of Wichita, KS and Redeara Godfrey & husband, Leroy of Anthony, KS; a sister, Mabel Kohne of Burlington, CO; 2 brothers, Richard and Donald Winslow, both of Burlington, CO; a sister-in-law, Jeanette Cozadd & husband, John of Goodland, KS; 7 Grandchildren: Jessica Adamson of Long Island, KS; Cora Jacobs of Wichita, KS; John Godfrey & wife, Stephanie of Shawnee, KS; Robin Garcia of Holdrege, NE; Larry Jacobs & Jennifer Maddox of Wichita, KS; Rusty Jacobs of Ft. Morgan, CO; Todd Jacobs & Vickie Foster of Beloit, KS; and 2 Step Grandchildren: Crystal Christensen of Mulvane, KS and Robert Drake of Wichita, KS; 3 Great-Grandchildren: Enrique Garcia of Ellsworth, KS; Lydia Jacobs and Charlie Anderson, both of Wichita, KS and; 5 Step Great-Grandchildren: Lisa Foster and Gene Foster, both of Beloit, KS; Noah Christensen and Zoie Christensen, both of Mulvane, KS; and Savannah Maddox of Wichita, KS; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, 1 sister, 1 granddaughter and a step great-grandchild.

Cremation was planned. Memorial services will be Wednesday, July 4, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. at the Olliff-Boeve Memorial Chapel in Phillipsburg, KS with Pastor Dave Pugh officiating. Inurnment will take place at a later time in the Goodland, KS Cemetery.
