IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Roger Lee
Shearer
June 15, 1942 – July 17, 2025
Roger Lee Shearer was born in Almena, Kansas, on June 15, 1942, to Vernon and Rosa Ella (Taylor) Shearer, and passed away at Logan Manor on July 17, 2025, at the age of 83.
Roger grew up on a farm in the Almena area where he attended a country school and graduated from the Almena High School in 1960. On November 25, 1961, he married Karen Rose Troutner at the Norton Christian Church in Norton, Kansas. He worked for his brother Dale on his farm before working in the oil field for several years.
In 1972, he changed professions and became a custodian in Stamford, Nebraska, for 7 years, and Northern Valley Middle School in Long Island, Kansas, for 28 years. He took great pride in his work not only for himself, but for the students, faculty, staff, and community. He was a staple of many students' school experience as a driver of "the big bus" between Long Island and Almena. Roger enjoyed animals of all kinds, and had his own hobby farm so he could care for them. Many groups of children enjoyed coming to see his animals over the years.
Roger is preceded in death by his wife Karen; brothers Dale and wife Dorothy Mae, Gerald and wife Anita, Dean and wife Nellie, Eldon and wife Lois, and Arnold Shearer; sisters Doris Linden and husband Guy, and Dorothy Morford and husband Francis; and granddaughters Amanda Turman and Brittany Shearer.
Survivors include son Mike Shearer (Shelly) of Almena, Kansas; daughters Deborah Kaus (Bob) of Norton, Kansas, Lisa Shearer (Scott) of Norton, Kansas, and Belinda Turman of Norton, Kansas; brother Lonnie Shearer (Pat) of Almena, Kansas; sister-in-law Elaine Shearer of rural Almena, Kansas; grandchildren Ryan Shearer (Amy), Scott Shearer, Alyssa Saalfeld (Ryan), Ben Kaus, Courtney Kaus, Dalton Smith (Jasmine), Keegan Smith, and Caleb Turman; and great grandchildren Marshall Saalfeld, Norah Saalfeld, Levi Graham, Wayne Smith, and Wacey Smith.
