Obituary

Ronald Leo Becker was born on May 22, 1937 on the family farm north of Logan KS, to Rhodney and Lucille (Jaenicke) Becker.  He was one of five boys, Jerome, Paul, Robert, Ronald, and Clifford.

On March 19, 2021, Ronald Leo Becker passed away peacefully at the home of Mitch and Hayley Becker in Pittsburg, Kansas with his family by his side at the age of 83 years.

In his younger years Ron worked for his dad on the family farm.  He decided to branch off and buy his own farm raising cattle, custom haying and farming many crops.  In addition to farming Ron worked 20 years at the Phillipsburg Coop Refinery. Along with a full-time job and a farm he also had dirt moving equipment. He built multiple ponds, water ways and terraces in the area before selling the equipment after several years and concentrating on building his custom haying business. In his prime Ron, his family, and some hired summer help, put up over 600 acres of hay, each cutting. Nothing seemed to excite him more, than stopping at an equipment dealership, to look at the newest equipment, and dream, if it was possible to afford it in his operation. Everyone in Logan knew, if they needed a tree trimmed or removed. He was the guy to call. Ron always had a tree job lined up to fill in the space between farming, hay or dirt work.  Some of the main things' dad taught us as kids, were a good work ethic, honesty and you always honored your word.

Ron was a fourth degree Knight with the Logan Knights of Columbus and held the office of Grand Knight for several years.  In addition, he was an active member of the Lions Club for multiple years; served as Phillips Country Commissioner, and President of the Farm Bureau.

One of Ron's past times was watching sports live or on the TV. He especially enjoyed the trip to Arlington, TX to watch the Dallas Cowboys play the LA Rams in the old stadium. This kind of dates the time frame that he did this. He also had multiple dogs over the years as a companion. His last four-legged friend was named Percy. Most of you know, if you saw Ron anywhere in the last ten years, you also saw Percy. His four-legged friend pasted away last year, and he truly missed his friend.

Ron graduated 1954 from Logan High School.  In 1955 he attended one year of college at Benedictine College and the next year at Hays University before returning home to work on the farm. On April 18, 1959 he was united in marriage to Veona Kay Frans.  To this union they had four children. Jay, Mitch, Angie and Ty.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Veona Kay, son Jay Becker; and brothers Jerome, Paul and Cliff.

Survivors include his brother, Bob Becker of Logan, KS, son, Mitch & wife Hayley of Pittsburg, KS, daughter, Angie Becker Ocklawaha, FL & son Ty & wife Stasey of Coweta, OK, Daughter-in-law Charlotte Wirges of Holdrege, NE and (9) grandchildren, plus (3) great-grandchildren.
