Obituary

Rose Yvonne Erickson, 83, passed away March 8th, 2018. She was born August 23, 1934 in Prairie View, KS to Herman and Elizabeth (Tillema) Wolters. Rose grew up in Prairie View and graduated from Prairie View High School in 1952.

Rose joined the work force upon graduation and worked for various retail stores in Phillipsburg. In 1953 she began working at the COOP Refinery in Phillipsburg, KS and retired from there in 1997. On November 4, 1955 she married her true love, Norman Erickson, at the Reformed Church in Prairie View. Rose and Norman made their home in Phillipsburg for the next 63 years. In November 2005 they celebrated 50 years of marriage with relatives and friends at the Prairie View Community Center.

Rose enjoyed traveling and had toured throughout the United States (including Alaska where she loved the dog sled rides) and also to Europe on 3 different occasions. The Netherlands (Holland) was a highlight, her ancestors' homeland. Rose and Norman dearly loved going to Branson, attending the numerous shows, with their favorite being the Presley's.

Rose professed her faith early at the Reformed Church, where she was a life-long active member, and sang in the Cantata. Rose volunteered in the Phillipsburg community at the Food Pantry and the Hospital Gift Shop.

Rose kept a beautiful home, and was fond of collecting and displaying dishes, New England Villages, and antique dolls. (Rose had a soft spot for cats, so you also found many cat collectible items in her home). Rose kept immaculate records and was a wonderful bookkeeper. Rose loved reading family genealogy, and later in life learned to use the computer and communicate with family and friends.

Rose is survived by her husband, Norman Erickson; sister, Dolores Walcott of Albuquerque, New Mexico; sisters-in-law, Ilene Johnson of Stuart, Florida and Evelyn Griffiths of Norton; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Herman and Elizabeth Wolters; brother, Alden Wolters; and sisters, Wauneta Schemper, Hazel Jansonius, and Marilyn Allen Whitsitt.

Cremation was chosen. Inurnment will be Wednesday, March 14, 2018 at 9:30 a.m. in the Fairview Cemetery, Phillipsburg, KS, followed by a memorial service at 11:00 a.m. in the Prairie View Reformed Church, Prairie View, KS with Pastor Aaron Rust officiating.
