Ruby Ilene Shockley, 73, of Logan, Kansas, passed away Sunday, January 27, 2013, at the Hays Medical Center in Hays, Kansas.
Ruby Ilene Shockley was born July 1, 1939 on the Family Farm in the Thornburg Community to Thomas Everett Shockley and Erma Matilda Tuxhorn Shockley. She was raised with her four brothers and 1 sister: Harold, Kenneth "Kenny", Marvin, Richard and Elaine. She went to school in White Eagle, Black Eagle and the Thornburg Grade School. She graduated High School from Smith Center in 1956. Then shortly moved to Logan where she was employed by the Ed Graham Road Construction Company. While employed she met Lawrence "Sonny" Fredrick Ruff. Then on November 2, 1956, she married Sonny at the St. Peters Lutheran Church in Logan. In the summer of 1957 Sonny was inducted into the US Army.
The couple moved to Colorado Springs where in 1958 Sheila Denise was born. After Sonny's military service they moved back to Logan in the summer of 1959 where they made their home. In the summer of 1962 Richard Lawrence was born. After a brief time working for Donahey Grocery, she was employed by First National Bank. She worked for them as a bank teller. After First National Bank was sold she assisted in the opening of Farmers National Bank Branch in Logan. She managed the front of the bank doing customer service and daily banking transactions. After her combined service of 40 years she retired. She enjoyed flowers, watching the birds and squirrels that frequented her many feeders. She enjoyed traveling, camping and fishing. She loved spending time with her family especially her Grandchildren and Great Grand Children.
She is survived by her husband, Lawrence "Sonny" Ruff; one brother, Marvin Shockley; one sister-in-law, Dorothy Shockley; her daughter, Sheila (Paul) Gift of Holyoke, Colorado and their children, Andrea (Gary) McCallum, Christopher (Shalea) Gift, Megan (Nathan) Schwarz, and Braden Gift; her son, Richard (Denise) Ruff and their children, Stephanie (Kyle) Carlin, Daniel (Aubrey) Ruff, Tiffany (Brian) Seeliger and Jennifer Ruff. Six Great Grandchildren also survive: Blye McCallum, Lauren Carlin, Weston Ruff, Shayanna Gift, Nash Gift, and Vincent Schwarz, as well as numerous Nieces and Nephews.
The Family has requested that Memorials be to Logan Fire Department or the Logan American Legion Auxiliary. Services are to be held January 30, 2013 at 2:00 pm in the Logan Christian Church with Troy Buss officiating.
