Obituary

Ruth Ilene (Richardson) McClain passed away on January 3, 2011 at Scranton, Kansas at the age of 97 from Lung Cancer.

She was born August 1, 1923 in Phillipsburg, Kansas to Eddie Lee and Emma May (Manges) Richardson. She was baptized into the First Baptist Church of Phillipsburg when in her young teens, and went through school in the Phillipsburg schools.

In 1940 she moved to Denver, Colorado where she worked until moving to California in 1943. She worked there until returning to Phillipsburg in 1945.

She married Robert E. McClain in June 0f 1946 at Concordia, Kansas. To this union three children were born, Terri, Michael and Susan.

Robert and Ruth lived in Holdrege, Nebraska for a few years, and then moved to Denver for several years. Robert, then, working in construction followed construction jobs for several years, living in Portsmouth, Ohio, Bridgeport, Michigan and Escondido, Californa before moving to Soldotna, Alaska in 1962 where they lived for almost 20 years. Ruth worked many years while in Alaska, helping in her husband's business as a General Contractor, plus other jobs and being a homemaker. After retiring in Alaska in 1981 they moved to Sutter Creek, California where they lived for 10 years before moving to Alma, Nebraska in 1991 where Robert passed away in 1993. Ruth then moved to Phillipsburg until 2006 at which time she moved to Scranton, Kansas until her death.

She left three children, Terri L. Jackson from Scranton, Michael E. McClain & wife Cindy of Snowflake, Arizona and Susan K. Hunt from Marysville, Washington, plus four grandchildren, ten great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews and two sisters-in-law.

She was preceded in death by five siblings and her parents.

Graveside services will be held at the Pleasant Hill (Hillside) Cemetery in Phillips County, Kansas at 12:00 p.m. Saturday, May 28, 2011.
