Ruth A. Smith, daughter of Ira Cox & Lillie Alma (Jacobs) Cox, was born August 12, 1915 in Phillips County, Kansas. She passed away April 5, 2018 at the Smith Center Health & Rehab in Smith Center, Kansas at the age of 102 years and 8 months.
She attended country school through eighth grade. On November 27, 1941 Ruth was united in marriage to Ivan Floyd Smith at the Cox farmstead in Phillips County. The couple was blessed with the birth of two sons – Darrell and Arnold.
The family initially made their home in Phillipsburg, Kansas, and then moved to Tujunga, California, where Ivan worked for Boeing. They later returned to Kansas to care for Ivan's father, making their home in Agra.
Prior to her marriage Ruth worked at the J. C. Penney Store in Phillipsburg. Following her marriage being a housewife and mother was what she enjoyed most. She was also an active member of the Agra Methodist Church.
In her spare time Ruth enjoyed painting ceramics, traveling, reading, playing cards and in her earlier years dancing. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who will be sadly missed by her family and many friends.
Preceding her in death were her parents, Ira & Lillie Cox; husband, Ivan Smith; son, Darrell Smith; brothers, Willis and wife, LaVergne, Floyd and wife, Vera, and Loyd Cox; and sister, Myrlie Sell, and husband, Adam.
Survivors include her son, Arnold & wife, Linda Smith of Madison, KS; daughter-in-law, Debra Smith of Riverton, Utah; five grandchildren: Christine, David, Michael, Marcus and wife, Melanie, and Cameron; and two great-granddaughters, Kahlen and Kinley. She is also survived by a sister-in-law, Erna Zink.
Visitation will be from 9:00 to 9:00 Tuesday & Wednesday at the funeral home.
