Obituary

Ryan D. Horner, son of Duane & Monnie (Morgan) Horner, was born August 19, 1959 in Phillipsburg, Kansas.  He passed away on May 22, 2020 at the Hays Medical Center in Hays, Kansas at the age of 60.

He grew up in Glade & attended school in Phillipsburg, graduating with the class of 1977.  Ryan had met all the graduation requirements early & decided to go into the military.  He enlisted in the Kansas National Guard in October of 1976, so at the time of his class's graduation ceremony, Ryan was finishing up his boot camp training.  He served in the National Guard for 14 years.  At time of his honorable discharge in 1990, Ryan had been serving as a recruiter for the Guard.

After his military service, Ryan worked various jobs, some to his liking & some not so much.  He established RH Plumbing & Electric which he owned & operated for over 30 years.  In the last few years, Ryan decided it was time to slow down a bit & not work so hard.  He slowly started phasing out his full-time business to a part-time one.  He took a position as a maintenance man at the Solomon Valley Manor in Stockton, still helping his customers on weekends & some evenings.

In the summer of 2019, Ryan had the opportunity to become a maintenance supervisor at the Norton Correctional Facility.  He really enjoyed his new position & his co-workers on the Maintenance Staff.  Ryan had found a new purpose in life, teaching his crew of inmates in the plumbing & electrical trade in which he was so experienced & talented at.

Ryan continued to assist his business customers anytime he could, up until his unexpected & untimely passing.

He was preceded in death by his parents & his grandson Matthew.

Survivors include his wife Cindy of the home; 2 sons, Mike of McCook, NE & J.R. of Polk City, IA; 2 daughters, Tandy of Tampa, FL & Jamie of Auburn, KS; 2 brothers, Dave & Tony of Phillipsburg; his sister, Linda Waters of Stockton; 14 grandchildren & 3 great grandchildren.

Ryan's giving heart, sense of humor & wit, loving ways, heartfelt laughter & warm smile will be deeply missed by all who knew him.  You will forever be my guardian angel.

Cremation was chosen.  A memorial service will be held July 11, 2020 at 10:30 a.m. in the Huck Boyd Community Center, Phillipsburg. The service will be streamed live on the Olliff-Boeve Memorial Chapel Facebook page.
