Obituary

Ryan L. Remer, age 52, passed away peacefully on February 13, 2026, after an eight-year battle with hemochromatosis, at UCHealth in Highlands Ranch, Colorado. Born on April 3, 1973, in Lander, Wyoming, Ryan was the beloved son of Rex Remer and Kathleen Graf. He graduated from Hays High School in 1992.

In 1990, Ryan met Malissia Zimmer, and together they welcomed their first child, daughter Brittany Skye Pflughoeft, in April 1993. Following Brittany’s birth, Ryan proudly enlisted in the United States Navy in 1994, answering a call to serve his country.

Ryan served honorably for approximately three years as a Boatswain’s Mate Third Class (BM3) aboard the USS Mount Whitney, the flagship of the U.S. Sixth Fleet. In this role, he carried out traditional seamanship duties including ship handling, deck operations, maintenance, and the training of junior sailors. His service took him across the Mediterranean and other international waters, experiences that shaped his character and instilled in him a lifelong sense of pride, discipline, and camaraderie. One of Ryan’s most cherished memories from his naval service was time spent serving aboard his admiral’s yacht—stories he shared often and with unmistakable pride. He was honorably discharged, carrying with him a deep respect for service, teamwork, and the sea.

In 1999, Ryan met Heather Grover of Hays, Kansas, and they shared a decade together. During that time, they welcomed two sons: Christian Riley Remer in March 2000, and Jakeb Ryan Remer in August 2003. Ryan was a devoted, hands-on father who believed in teaching by example. He frequently involved his sons in his work, patiently teaching them skills such as flooring homes and reading blueprints—lessons rooted in his strong work ethic, independence, and pride in doing things the right way.

Ryan was preceded in death by his grandparents, Clarinda (Roath) and Byrl Nichols of Lander, Wyoming, and by his stepmother, Mariam Remer of Lander, Wyoming.

He is survived by his father, Rex Remer of Lander, Wyoming, and his mother, Kathleen Graf of Bird City, Kansas. He is also survived by his brothers, Shawn Graf of Ranchester, Wyoming, and Cory Graf of Delta, Colorado. Ryan leaves behind his children: Brittany Pflughoeft of Augusta, Kansas; Collin Remer of Wichita, Kansas; Christian Remer of Hays, Kansas; and Jakeb Remer (Raelea) of Logan, Kansas. He is also survived by eight grandchildren—Bentley Wise, Blaisely Wise, Wrenley Hand, Lilianah Remer, Harper Remer, Luna Remer, Lucas Remer, and Baby Remer, due in August—each of whom brought him great joy and pride.

Ryan’s life was defined by his love for his family, his pride in serving his country, and his unwavering dedication to honest, hardworking values. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Cremation was chosen. A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, March 7, 2026, at the Pleasant View Cemetery, Logan, KS.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Ryan L. Remer Memorial Fund c/o the Logan Funeral Home, PO Box 563, Phillipsburg, KS 67661.
