Scotty Patton left his earthly home in Phillipsburg, KS on April 28, 2015, shortly after telling his family that he had completed his work here and he was ready to meet His Savior.
His earthly work began on a farm in Lane County, Kansas on October 19, 1934. The son of Glen and Rogene (Ramsey) Patton, Scotty Dean was the third of seven children. Scotty was educated in rural Kansas and Colorado, graduating from Cheyenne Wells High School in Cheyenne Wells, CO in 1952. He and his brothers made up 3 of the starters on the football and basketball teams when Scotty was a freshman.
After graduation from high school, Scotty enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served during the Korean War on the USS Merrick. He was a specialist in electronics and thrilled his shipmates by wiring radio speakers throughout the ship for all to hear news and music from the mainland.
After receiving an honorable discharge, Scotty attended Colorado State University before being accepted into dental school at the UMKC School of Dentistry in Kansas City. He recently was able to spend a day revisiting his home, the old dental school and other hangouts, regaling his family with stories of his time in dental school involving the mob, the Paseo, penny weight machines and fixed elections.
After graduating from dental school in 1964, he came to Phillipsburg, Kansas seeking to buy a retired dentist's dental equipment, but was met by the local banker who convinced him to stay and set up practice there. This began a practice that would last over 50 years which would eventually include his son as well.
Shortly after opening his practice, he met Karin Schild on a blind date surreptitiously set up by Karin. They were married less than a year later on August 14, 1965, a marriage that would last for nearly 50 years where they were blessed with two daughters and two sons.
He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith in September, 1965, at Zion Lutheran Church in Phillipsburg where he remained a faithful, active member. Scotty loved practicing dentistry and also loved gardening, refinishing old furniture, attending K-State football games and serving as a short-order breakfast cook whenever his family was in town. He lived well with a generous spirit and attention to others, even to his last moments.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Jim and Denny; and son, William.
He is survived by his wife, Karin; daughters Cori (Kent) Power of Grantville, KS and Caci (Matt) Liebentritt of Omaha, NE; and son, Christopher (Robyn) of Phillipsburg; 10 grandchildren, Cari (Ben) Mooneyham of Chicago, IL; Danielle (David) Ghormley of Chester, VA; Nicki Power of Manhattan, KS; William Patton of Laramie, WY, Brady Patton of Lincoln, NE, Erin Patton of Phillipsburg, and Barret, Chloe, Carson and Wyatt Liebentritt of Omaha; 4 great grandchildren, Charlotte, Clive and Penelope Mooneyham and Corbin Ghormley; 2 brothers, Jerry of Tallahassee, FL, Kelley of Denver, CO; and 2 sisters, Liz Ackerman of Cheyenne Wells, CO and Sue Sharp of Bentonville, AR.
