Silvia Lucille Hackler, youngest child of Charles and Edith Marie (Pohlenz) Hackler, was born October 4, 1915, on a farm in northern Phillips County, Kansas near Naponee, Nebraska. She died July 4, 2010 at Belleville Health Center in Belleville, Kansas.
She attended grade school in Griffin School, a rural one-room school. She then boarded in Agra, Kansas to attend high school. She graduated from Agra High School in 1933. She had taken Normal Training in high school and then taught school in two rural Phillips County one-room schools.
She married Vincent Eugene (Gene) Sargent May 27, 1936. Gene and Lucille farmed in the Agra area for the rest of Gene's life. Gene died December 23, 1982. To this union were born two children, DeLon and Janet. DeLon and wife, Joyce, live in Purcellville, Virginia. Janet and husband (Donald Suchsland) live at Kensington, Kansas.
She was a long-time member of Johnson EUB Church north of Agra. Lucille was active in 4-H and was a founder of the Blue Mound 4-H Club at Agra. She served as a Club Leader and also taught cooking and sewing to the club members. She worked several years as a Crop Enumerator for the Department of Agriculture. Gene and Lucille helped organize a local square dance club and enjoyed many years of square dancing.
Lucille married Warren Wallin November 5, 1988 and she lived out the rest of her life at Courtland, Kansas. Lucille and Warren enjoyed traveling; they spent summers at parks in Colorado and winters in Mission, Texas as long as their health permitted.
Lucille was preceded in death by her parents, her sister (Viola Steinbrink), her brother (Cylvan Hackler) and a great grand-daughter.
She leaves to mourn her husband, Warren Wallin, children: DeLon and wife Joyce, of Purcellville, Virginia and Janet and husband Donald Suchsland of Kensington, Kansas: four grandchildren: Edward Sargent, Purcellville, VA, Mike and wife De Suchsland of Agra, Ks, Kristi and husband Vincent Traffas of Kensington and Dyann and husband Troy Collins of Alma, NE, eight great grandchildren; step-children: Donald Wallin, of Courtland, Dennis Wallin of Courtland, Julie Harvey of Mankato, KS, Karen Wallin of Green Valley, AZ. And numerous step grandchildren and step great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, July 9, 2010 in the Olliff-Boeve Memorial Chapel, Phillipsburg, with Pastor Becky Saddler officiating. Burial followed in the West Cedar Cemetery, Phillips County.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Courtland United Methodist Church or the Agra United Methodist Church.
